This roller coaster ride of a season continues thos weekend against the struggling Mets who have lost 7 of their last 10 games. The Rangers will send out deGrom, Corbin, and Latz.

The Rangers begin the series 2 games behind both the Astros and the Mariners in the division and for the third wildcard spot. With only 15 games to go, every series is a big series.

If the Rangers win each of the next 5 series, you have to like their chances. The Astros series will be a big one, but a bad series this weekend or next weekend could negate winning the series against the Astros. Every single game matters a great deal; every single series is vital. Also, every decision by the manager will matter a great deal.

We may not get much help this weekend from the Braves or the Angels, but you never know. I remember several years ago how we thwarted the Mariners by playing tough against them late in the year after we were out of it. I especially remember Lou Pinella cursing about how Mickey Tettleton seemed to thrive against them in one series. In that last series of the year in 1995, Mickey Tettleton went 7 for 12 with 4 home runs and 4 walks. The Rangers split that 4-game series. Let's hope the Braves and the Angels have a "Tettleton" in their lineup this weekend.

The Rangers would have the tiebreaker over Houston by winning one more game against them, but in reality we really need to win that series. Seattle has the tiebreaker advantage over us.

That means against Houston we will have Leiter, Kelly and deGrom. I like that on paper just hope the results are good.

Jamey Newberg is in Arizona to watch the Rangers prospects in the Arizona Instructional League. This is different than the AFL. The Instructs, as they are called, is more of a teaching camp for very young prospects.

Jamey reports that Devin Fitz-Gerald is close to being at full strength after a shoulder injury to his non-throwing shoulder sidelined him for a big chunk of the 2025 season. He should play the first few games at DH instead of SS.

Jamey also mentioned that Izack Tiger is throwing batting practice. He is recovering from a September 2024 internal brace surgery. That is the same surgery Cody Bradford had on Jume 25 this year.

We definitely need the good Leiter. It would be nice if both Leiter and deGrom could go deeper into the game this time.

Some things the scouts and player personnel guys see in Devin Fitz-Gerald:

“What always stood out most was he always seemed to be in the middle of things,” Duenas says. “He had an ability to pick up on things at a young age — and a knack for big moments. Clutch at-bats. Key defensive plays. The stage was never too big for him. He wanted those moments.”

“All ball player,” Holmberg says. “Sees it, thinks it, can’t get enough of it. He’s a guy you want to put in your lineup.”

“Once you’re around him, you see and feel the fire,” Duenas adds. “He’s built for this. He’s wired to compete and to win. A pure gamer. He cares about his teammates and the people around him, and they care about him. He’s exactly the type of guy you want in the clubhouse.” ...

“I’ve never seen pressure or anxiety get to Fitz,” Atkinson says. “Never seen any worry or fear out of him. He doesn’t succumb to the noise.”

That drive, that intensity, is not reserved solely for the times when the scoreboard is on. It permeates everything Fitz-Gerald does, in the biggest moments and the quiet, isolated times alike. “He leans into attacking his weaknesses in his training,” Atkinson adds. “He challenges himself in the cages as much as anyone.”

“His ability to manage an at-bat at a young age is real,” says Hitting Coordinator Eric Dorton. “You just don’t see him get off plan.”

The fact that Fitz-Gerald is doing all of this a year out of high school has opened the meticulous Atkinson’s eyes as much as anything. “The ability he has to understand and execute his approach is way, way beyond his years.”

Jamey Newberg mentions that Devin Fitz-Gerald has been compared to Josh Smith, Thomas Saggese, and Cody Freeman.

I have been thinking about some past September's when we were trying to catch up to make the playoffs. Frankie Francisco came to mind. Let's hope nothing like this happens again.

I'll take a 3 - 3 road trip. Preferably 2 of the wins in Houston.

Mets are a cornered animal right now so they'll be tough...even with a 6 game losing streak.

Anything better than .500 on this trip would be great. Anything worse would likely be the end.

Split this road trip (at least) and then Seager returns for the final homestand.

Really have to play these game by game
Heopefy won every series which is at least 10-5 but we are scoreboard watching

If we pick up a game on Astros then just win if the series puts us in a good position but if we lose ground a sweep then puts us in a good position pending Houston/Seattle

Mets Desperately need to win the series.

Let’s start out and get JDG game and get him a lead early

I want 4-2. Mets are reeling. They have no bullpen. We have pitching advantage over Houston.
