Bullpen Failure is back, lurking like Gollum
Corniell has been roughed up tonight, but I hope he gets a couple of months of starts up here after the deadline.
Do you think CY would go out and trade for a starter?
You just dont know with CYI hope not if many prospects are involved.
I just don’t think he’s ready. He was up once before and gave a walk off homerun. Seems like he’s homer prone.Corniell has been roughed up tonight, but I hope he gets a couple of months of starts up here after the deadline.
I think he's still rehabing.I wonder what Jon Gray is up to.
You know, I thought of him too. That would be hilarious.I think he's still rehabing.
Let's rock the boat and sign Trevor Bauer.
That is a really big "if."Should win series with deGrom if the offense comes to life
If Nimmo would have hit his HR or triple in the 1st inning or someone come through with the bases loaded and 0 outs in the 2nd inning we might be talking about a different outcome.Should win series with deGrom if the offense comes to life
Jacob Latz is having an excellent 2026 season as a reliever (primarily).I wonder if Jacob Latz is lobbying for a chance at the rotation.
Excellent read. Maybe I am not that much off the rails when I said Latz could be the mvp of this team up to this pointJacob Latz is having an excellent 2026 season as a reliever (primarily).
Key traditional stats (2026, ~37 IP in 29 G, 1 GS): 1-1 record, ~1.46-1.51 ERA, 38 K, very low WHIP (~0.62), and 14 SV. He’s a high-leverage arm with strong command and swing-and-miss stuff.
2026 MLB Percentile Rankings (from Baseball Savant Statcast, among qualified pitchers)
These show how he ranks relative to other MLB pitchers (higher % = better; e.g., 90th+ is elite). Data is for the 2026 season:
• Pitching Run Value: 96th (elite overall impact)
• Fastball Run Value: 96th
• Breaking Run Value (or similar breaking/off-speed): 59th
• Off-Speed Run Value: 86th
• xERA: 98th (outstanding expected performance)
• Fastball Velocity (MPH): 48th (solid but not elite; avg ~94.5 mph on 4-seamer)
• Fastball Spin: 58th
• Curve Spin: 54th (or relevant breaking spin)
• Avg Exit Velocity (allowed): 81st (strong suppression of hard contact)
• Chase %: 80th (excellent at inducing chases)
• Whiff %: 86th (strong swing-and-miss)
• K %: 90th (elite strikeout rate)
• BB %: 55th (solid control, low walks)
• Barrel % (allowed): 38th (good but room for improvement)
• Hard-Hit % (allowed): 47th (around average/above)
• GB %: 61st (slightly above average ground-ball tendency)
Other notable 2026 Statcast context (from his player page):
• Low barrel rate allowed (~7.1%), low xBA/xSLG/xwOBA (very strong expected outcomes).
• Effective 4-pitch mix: 4-Seamer (~55%), Slider (~22%), Changeup (~15%), Curve (~8%).
• Strong induced movement and spin on pitches; good extension and deception.
• Batted balls: Solid GB% and popup rates, limiting damage.
Latz ranks among the top relievers in the league this year in key advanced metrics like xERA, run value, K%, and chase rate, making him a lockdown option (especially with the low WHIP and save opportunities). His fastball isn’t the hardest, but command, secondary pitches, and overall stuff drive the success.
Yep, we were on the same wavelength.Well this loss last night definitely has some amount of responsibility laid on CY. How much of a percentage on him will never be known.
Now you can see why some fans were upset(including myself) about the trade last year involving Mitch Bratt. If he started last night the 6-4 loss may have been different. Perhaps Bratt would have already been in our rotation and the season might look more positive.
Bratt was my favorite player in our organization at the time of the trade. I followed all of his starts last year and thought he would be a decent starter in the MLB. Not a number1 but maybe similar to a Cody Bradford before his injuries. Bratt does not over power batters but he has great control and hardly walks batters. He had a 2.84 era and a 0.95 whip with the Reno Aces(Arizona's AAA affiliate)
Bratt has been called up by the Diamondbacks and will make his debut.
I could care less about the Dbacks, but I am very curious to see how Bratt turns out and will wonder what could have been.
I will reiterate one more time the guy we traded for Merril Kelly had no impact on the Rangers last year. Oh wait he did but it was negative. 4.23 era 1.25 whip and a -0.1 war. This was his contribution as a 36 year old fading pitcher for our team last year. This year the 37 year old Kelly is even worse with a era well north of 5.00
I didnt even mention the other 2 pitchers CY sent away in that trade Kohl Drake and David Hagaman. Too early to tell on those two guys so I will let it alone for now.
The point of my writing this is not to yearn over Bratt. My concern is the continued annoyance and vexation over the trades CY continues to make throwing away young pitching prospects. Many of these prospects dont pan out but if you keep throwing them away eventually one of them will come back to bite you. My bet is that Bratt leaves a nasty bite.
