Series Thread: Rangers Travel to Colorado For Three Games May 18-20

After s disappointing series in Houston, the Rangers travel to Denver to face the lowly Rockies. The Rockies are one of only two teams in MLB that have a worse record than the Astros.

As usual, the Rockies have hit fairly well this year, but rank in the bottom third in the big leagues in pitching. The Rockies will send out at least 2 lefties. The Rangers will counter with Gore, Rocker and Leiter. All three of our pitchers have played the roles of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this year. Colorado could pose a challenge to them and will certainly make for a great test.

Jake Burger is third in the AL in RBI. Think about that. With as long as he has struggled at times this season, he is third in the AL in RBI. He is on pace for very good HR totals and great RBI totals.

Corey Seager will not play tonight as he has a doctor's appointment in the Metroplex today to see about his back. The offense is probably better off without him at this point. I sure hope that is not the case a month from now.

Cody Freeman has started very slow in the ACL, but it is like the beginning of spring training for him. Hopefully, he will become an option for the team two or three weeks from now.

Two years ago the Rangers selected Malcolm Moore as their first round draft pick. That pick has been much maligned by others and by myself. My problem with picking him was that there were others available who seemingly were better selections and that is still the case. Others thought he would never be able to stick at the catcher position. I really haven't read much about his catching skills, but he is making news about his hitting, of late. The Prospect Times reported this about him yesterday:

Multiple Hit Streak:: 7 straight games (2+ hits in each)

Power Surge: 4 HRs in his last 5 games"

He is hitting .318 in tje year with an OPS of .982. He will definitely be someone to watch for the rest of the year. As will Dalton Pence, Jose Corniell, Rafe Perich, Arturo Disla, Dylan Dreiling, Yolfran Castillo, Yeison Morrobel and John Taylor.

It is time to go out and win this series and even hope for a sweep.

I am guessing Carter sits at least one game or they could just bat him low in the lineup and play him. That’s best unless he needs a rest day as Wyatt is a lot better replacement than Osuna in CF defensively

We hear from Twitter influencers that the Ranger bats can snap out of it but my thought is players snap out when adjustments are made and even the it could be just incremental improvement like Burger. Now I was wrong about Jung.
minus a few blips he looks to have made incremental changes.

But does this make us a legit force or just a lucky team tat snuck in?

"Less than two months until the 2026 Draft is underway and the Chicago White Sox are officially on the clock. It's still far too early to have confidence in mocks drafts. Here, or at any other publication. Teams and their directors like players, yes, but we're just now getting to the point of the season where guys are doubling-back on players. Pre-draft meetings for organizations are still a month away, as is the MLB Draft Combine. One director picking in the teens told me this week they legitimately have 40 players in play for their first pick. Again, teams like players, but nobody really has a clue what's going to happen yet."

"Roch Cholowsky remains the No. 1 pick in this mock draft, however there are several players near the top of the board being scouted heavily by the White Sox. Probably just due diligence, but Cholowsky going at the very top doesn't seem set in stone. There are folks in the industry who view Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey as not only the best player in the class, but one of the top three college catching prospects every available in any draft -- his reviews in some circles are that glowing."

"Grady Emerson remains the top high schooler off the board in this scenario and he's got at least a fractional chance to go No. 1. Jacob Lombard continues to get effusive reports from those that have been in to see him. Lombard (and most Florida high school prospects) will see his season end in about a week."

"This class feels particularly devoid of infield talent both on the high school and college side. It's made for a difficult evaluation cycle for some teams that are facing the reality they'll likely have to zig from their conventional approach in the draft toward something more nuanced in 2026."

I still think we are just about a .500 team. I think we have been lucky that hardly any team has gotten hot. That will most likely change. I think a lot of AL teams have had difficulty against NFL teams and that has kept most of the AL teams from pulling away. Maybe that changes and maybe it does not.

I think, organizationally, we will be much better off in the long run if a few of these AL teams get hot and keep CY from being a buyer again. We have about 50 to 54 more games to find out.

Helman has been terrible at Round Rock and Haggerty with the Rangers. Should let Carter play for one of those guys. Watch them do great tonight.
