Duane mentioned on the old thread that McCutchen is out for the year and wondered if Philly would be interested in Choo. That is a good topic to discuss.

Maybe they would interested in Pence.

They will probably want to wait until we are through with the cush part of our schedule so that our record will not be that of a WC contender.

Pence is cheaper, hits well, fast and good in the OF.

A work in progress. He has a lot of rust to shake off after the Rangers sat him all last summer

The schedule gets a little tougher after this series.

From Scott Lucas:

About the players:

Round 1 / 8th overall: 3B Josh Jung, Texas Tech, 6'2", 215, 21 years / 8 months
(#17 draft prospect per Baseball America, #16 per MLB.com, #12 per FanGraphs)
I wrote him up yesterday. Third base isn't a position of strength in the system (nor is any corner slot), but teams don't pick on that basis. Jung isn't a huge power prospect, but his ability to pick up pitches and put the bat on the ball are well above average, and more power may develop. Jung is hitting .340/.478/.608 with 11 homers and 51 walks in 57 games. He can't sign yet because his Red Raiders are still active, reaching the NCAA super regionals against Oklahoma State.Video from MLB.com

1/41: 3B David Wendzel, Baylor, 6'1", 200, 22 years / 1 month
(55 BA, 47 MLB, 82 FG)
Another college third baseman, the Big 12 co-player of the year along with none other than Jung. Wendzel batted .367/.484/.610 with eight homers and 31 walks in 46 games. He's not fast but runs the bases well, swiping a surprising 11 bases this season. Like Jung, he emphasizes contact rather than power, but there's hope he can develop more, albeit not to Jung's level. The slight concern about Jung's future position isn't appearing in Wendzel's defensive reviews. UCLA eliminated Baylor in the NCAA regionals. Video from MLB.com

2/50: RHP Ryan Garcia, UCLA, 6'0", 180, 21 years / 5 months
(88 BA, 98 MLB, 122 FG)
The Bruins' Friday starter. Garcia doesn't have a standout pitch but can command four of them well, including a change, curve and slider. The fastball runs 91-93 with good spin, per the reviews. I saw Garcia throw two scoreless innings last night in UCLA's regional-clinching victory. I wish I hadn't, because Garcia threw 112 pitches just three days earlier, tossing 8.1 innings in a regional-opening victory. Garcia dealt almost nothing but heat in the 89-92 range, below his usual velocity. He ramped up to 94 on his final offering, and fortunately, he needed only 24 pitches. Video from MLB.com

Scott shows how each player we took last night was ranked according to BA, MLB.com, and FanGraphs. Those are good examples of how the drafted order can be a lot different than the rankings.

Wish Juardo would take Smyly's place in the rotation.

Last year, after his first start in June, Matt Moore had an ERA of 7.47. Drew Smyly's ERA could go up a little bit or down a little bit before he is done for the night, but he is going to be very close to that ERA that Moore had. He is this year's Matt Moore.

Lol. Before I could finish my post he gives up another run.
