Bullpen Failure is back, lurking like Gollum
After a successful opening to the homestead against the Pirates, the Rangers will now face their current rivals for the division lead, the Athletics. Both teams enter the series with 13-12 records. Overall, there are only 3.5 games separating the AL West division leaders from the last place Astros.
The offense is trending in the right direction for the most part. It is a shame that Langford got hurt because he was leading the way. Here is how our offense has fared for our hitters over the course of each of their last 5 games.
Wyatt Langford .400
Josh Jung .353
Ezequiel Duran .353
Evan Carter .294
Brandon Nimmo .273
Josh Smith .273
Joc Pederson .250
Corey Seager .158
Danny Jansen .158
Jake Burger .100
The Rangers will send Eovaldi, Gore and Rocker to the hill in these next 3 games.
At the current winning percentage the Rangers are on pace to finish 84-78. They would be 58-54 at the trade deadline.
Several of our hitters have fared well in the past against tonight's starter for the A's, Luis Severino. Only Seager, Burger and Jung has struggled against him. Really only Jung and Higashioka have done well against Springs who starts against us on Saturday. The sample sizes are mostly really small against Ginn, who starts Sunday's game.
Winning two out of three would be sufficient, but a sweep would really help in the standings. The offense needs to continue its recent trend, and we need to get a quality start out of all three starting pitchers.
