In Beltre we trust.
Lol. If there was ever a time for wash, this is it.
Wash would be one of the greatest people on the planet to go out and drink with I bet.

That would break the narrative that Texas disrespected him though Romeo. Don't wanna point that out! Guess Cruz just wanted to move on. Good for him. He's had a hell of a year so far.

Anyone who would take that man seriously needs to have their head examined. Pot stirrer extraordinaire. Gerry Fraley is taking over for him in that department with some of the crap he's published this year.Which is why when Galloway came up with that stuff about the 6 million dollar offer, I said I would like to see his sources on that one. :ss:

Also, interesting to hear the rangers offered nelly a 2 year deal. Both that and the qualifying offer were for more money than he signed with Baltimore for.
Yeah, I think all those offers were when he and his agent were way off on where his actual market value was. I think what really happened was we made him that 2 year offer and he still thought he could get more, so he passed on it. Then we went after Choo and when we landed him we filled up up OF and assumed Nelly would go elsewhere due to his desire to play the field. Pretty much like most of us thought, once we signed Choo, Nelly was pretty much off the table. Or at least this sounded like what JD said. He didn't deny the $6M offer though. So perhaps we still did that and that was just all we had left in the budget to offer with less time in the OF. That and we wanted to give Mitch a shot and get our pick back we lost on Choo more.
I don't really fault anyone. It turns out Cruz and his agent knew more about his market value than the market- O's got a steal. I'm sure tons of GMs are kicking themselves in hindsight. I'm really just happy for him, I knew he had this sort of season in him... sure wish it could be with us but just wasn't in the cards.
He still left with way more class than several other of our WS core members.
Basically it was a gamble as lots of baseball decisions can be and it turned out that taking a chance on MM performing and trying to recoup a draft pick ended up being a bad move, especially after we have seen what NC has done so far this season. As I have said previously Cruz wanted to play in the outfield but as long as he was a paid player in the organization he would have done what was asked and played the role he was needed in. Hindsight shouldn't play into the fact that injuries happen and the team didn't have much outfield depth to begin with, so Cruz could have conceivably seen some significant OF time. Engel Beltre didn't show much in the Spring and Adduci, though he had a decent Spring hadn't performed much at the ML level. Choice had a great Spring but as we have seen that doesn't translate to an entire season. While I think you are presumably correct on the financial considerations I believe there were other moves that could have been made to ensure there was a spot to bring in a proven player vs relying on the other scenarios. Ramble I know

JD did say that it is normal for a player to turn down the qualifying offer and after this year and what happened to Cruz and Morales that maybe players will not be so quick to do so. But I never heard him say the specifics about the 2 year offer.
Didnt know everyone was over here talking about it. As it turns out Cruz would have been in the OF quite a bit after seeing Choo out there. JD did own up and say that is probably how it would have turned out. Not too many GM's would be willing to do what JD did yesterday in answering those questions.
I give him credit for taking the barrage of questions and admitting he has made mistakes
