Let's finish this out and see what the offseason brings us.

Maybe the Reds can win a couple this weekend.

Perhaps the off season will redirect Choo to a happy home in the NL.

Maybe if the Rangers are willing to eat around $21M of the 2 years left on his contract there might be an AL team that would take him

Clase is the relief pitcher we got for Brett Nicholas. He is a 20 year-old who had a good season in Spokane even though he was a little young for the league.

After trading away much of their bullpen, the Rangers have experienced a few exceptional game-ending developments

First, the disclaimer: Objects seen through a September lens can be deceiving.

With that in mind, the best development of the month may be that the seedlings in the Rangers' bullpen may be starting to sprout. On Thursday, the Rangers shutout Seattle 2-0 with Connor Sadzeck and Jose Leclerc finishing off the final two innings of the three-hit shutout.

Rookie Ariel Jurado pitched the first six innings, allowing two hits, for his best outing in the majors.

If you are keeping track at home - and we understand if you aren't given the time of the year and the Rangers' 67-92 record with three games to play - Sadzeck and Leclerc have 20 appearances between them in September. And here is the number of earned runs they've allowed: Zero.

They are holding hitters to a .121 batting average for 58 at-bats and a .292 on-base percentage.

For a team that tore down it's bullpen at the trade deadline, this qualifies as a most exceptional development.

More from the Fraley article:

Leclerc's success extends beyond September. He's been the best pitcher on the staff, despite a pair of early-season demotions so the Rangers could temporarily hold on to Kevin Jepsen. He had ascended to the setup role by July and took over as closer when Keone Kela was traded to Pittsburgh. His scoreless ninth, which produced his 12th save of the season, extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings.

He last allowed a run when Khris Davis (who else?) hit a two-run homer off him on July 25. It's the only homer he has allowed this season. Since June 20, he's allowed just those two runs in 32.2 innings.

"Coming in for the first time this year, you heard reports of 'Well, I don't know if he can handle the pressure situation'," Wakamatsu said. "Well, he's done everything and more, and the confidence and maturity he has shown over the year, and the growth, has been phenomenal."

In his first two seasons, Leclerc was done in by ridiculously high walk rates, which reduced the effectiveness of his fastball-split finger changeup mix.

Sadzeck's walk rate has been as ridiculous as pre-2018 Leclerc, but he's quickly seemed to regather himself after walks early in the inning. He's walked or hit a batter in each of his last seven appearances. But each time, he's rebounded quickly. On Tuesday, for example, he walked Mike Zunino with one out, but came back to get the next two batters.

He has quickened up his delivery, particularly with runners on base, and still maintained the power that allows him to throw 99 mph. That kind of ability makes managers drool. It's something he did not show in the minor leagues consistently.

"When we talk about development, if you got his times to the plate, they were under 1.1 seconds, and throwing 99 mph," Wakamatsu said. "It takes a long time for guys to understand that we can still stay compact, let the arm catch up and still throw hard with strikes. He's learning that."

September is about learning.

The Rangers are learning they might just have the beginnings of a bullpen.

Is it going to be a lot different than the last time they hired someone?

How long should that take?

I would assume so.

Doubtful for this front office but 45 pitches in the second tonight and 4 walks? This guy sucks. My 8 year olds throw more strikes

rangers aren't going to pursue any top level free agents either pitching or position. at best we will sign a few level 4 or 5 free agents and suffer another lackluster season before we move to the new park.
