Cole Gillespie. 30 year old journeyman outfielder and career minor leaguer. But check out his slashline at Tacoma this year: .362/.456/.741/1.197. Uh, yeah. That's pretty damn good.

No worrd yet on who is replaaced Rameriz in the rotation but I think it will Maurer. Brandon has been pitching long relief in tacoma this year and has pitched 8.1 innings. That's 25 outs. 17 of those outs have been strike outs.

Man, Franklin didn't stick around long.

That can't be good for a young player's psyche.

Franklin needs everyday at bats. That's why he was sent down.

As for Ramirez, the M's have 2 days off in the next 5 days. He is pitching on his normal rest for High Desert and they are skipping his rotation spot in the bigs. He will then report to Tacoma and start on normal rest for the Rainiers. He would be eligible to return when the M's have a stretch of 10 games in 9 days d/t to the make up game with the A's.

Yeah, especially when Miller is doiing no better. As long as they have no problem destroying teh psyche of their young players, maybe they should just bring up Ketel Marte from Jackson and let him play shortstop.

Jabari Blash is killing it down in Jackson too. They need to promote him to AAA.

If it wasn't for the fact that the M's were already missing so many of their projected starting rotation, the Ramirez demotion probably would have happened sooner and for a reason other than "We have off days coming up and won't need a 5th starter for a while".

He has the worst ERA of any starter on our staff so far, has given up at least one long ball in every start this season with his 6 homeruns allowed doubling the next highest total on the team (Felix has given up 3) and he has already issued 11 walks in 24 innings this year after issuing 26 walks in 72 1/3 innings last season.

The homeruns I can live with as long as most of them are solo shots. The problem has been the walks. For a guy who has been labeled a "control pitcher", 11 walks in 24 innings is not good. With Paxton, Walker and Iwakuma out for who knows how long, Ramirez was supposed to be a steadying force in the rotation along with Felix, but he's been the opposite of that so far. I'm hoping his return trip to the minors will make something click with him and he comes back ready to eat innings and keep the team in the game because we really can't afford to have multiple guys who can't make it out of the 5th inning going out there on a regular basis.

Definitely agree with sending Franklin down and that he needs everyday at bats. I don't really understand what purpose Gillespie will have with the team though. Since McClendon seems to refuse to believe in taking Almonte out of his spot even for a day, it seems like he will play even less then Romero which isn't much.

Maybe they are going to give CF back to Saunders and let Gillespie join the mix in RF. After the ball Almonte misplayed yesterday, maybe McClendon has seen enough. One can only hope.

Saunders was actually looking pretty good last year before he crashed into the Safeco RF wall in a game against the Astros. Maybe he can get back to that level of play if he is given regular playing time. He certainly won't be any worse than Almonte.
