I'm going to flip the script here on you OP, gonna say next to the Cardinals the Raiders could very easily make a huge jump here in talent if they play those three first rounders right and pick up extra picks in this years draft.

I think adding Mayock as GM was brilliant on Grudens part. This guy has been college scouting for the last 18 years, plus his talent evaluation's have been pretty damn spot on over the years. ( Im not talking about his TV appeal) Im talking his overall examinations of tape, and combine workouts.

Actually the Raiders have 8 picks, and that was my point in a round about way, with Mayock they could hit on all 8 picks....

Gruden has the contract to take the slow boat...(draft) to the playoffs.

I don't buy all the positions that WF is claiming needs upgrading, but they've got to fix the trenches 1st and get Carr some reliable weapons...(I might be more inclined to look at FA, here).

Agreed. The law of averages says even Mayock will miss on a few picks.

I'm not saying he bats .1000, but he put a core group together that could build this thing into a winner in Vegas, ( kinda like Seattle did with their little core group!)

I'm begining to wonder if Al Davis faked his own death and is still running the team behind the scenes. Past couple of years have been rough. Considering for a short couple of year, it appeared the Raiders were heading in the right direction. One step foward, 399 steps backwards.

Agreed...you can and should build thru the draft, and as a draft expert, if given time, Mayock should get the talent in there.

Gruden is a smart enough guy to use them properly one would think...my caution has as much to do with the risks of the draft than questioning Mayock. IMO SEA, did a great job building via the draft, but they got a little lucky with a 3rd round pick and credit a HC with enough balls to see this guy had more game than his high priced FA QB.

No I think they went back to back drafts with there core of Wilson, Sherman, Cam, Wagner, Thomas was a three year vet.... I remember his draft cause when fat Andy moved up that year I thought he was grabbing Thomas, but he took Graham...... :L Anyways 2010 and 2011 put the core of the Seattle Seahawks

I'm not so sure the Seattle analogy works in this case. Seattle had great ownership with deep pockets and they hired good football people to steer the helm. Let's face it, Davis really isn't all that bright or that rich and is as different to Paul Allen as one can get. Hiring Mayock was maybe a good move but the franchise is a mess. Seattle had a lot more stability. I can't look at Gruden as a guy that can get it done. I think he is grossly over rated as a HC.
