per LeBrun:

If it is an off-season hire of a head coach/GM/President of Hockey ops that is under contract, the team must give up a 3rd.

If it is an in-season hire of a coach/GM/President of Hockey ops that is under contract, the team must give up a 2nd.

Coach's season ends when his team's season ends.
A GM or President of hockey ops season ends after the draft.

So as long as the coach is fired or let go, then the team getting him doesn't have to give up a pick?

Or in the case of Oilers brass, if you poach one of their's they give up their draft pick.

I think some of the finer details still need to be ironed out, and what happens if the team trying to do the hire doesn't have the pick to give? Also, does this just apply to head coaches and GMs, what about associate coaches and assistant GMs?

Expect an official release from the league in a couple of weeks or so.

I expect the Oilers to continue their time hono(u)red tradition of re-cycling the old boys club esls, those draft picks are liquid gold.

/or comedy gold.

I think as long as the coach gets fired or let go, the team getting that coach shouldn't have to give up a pick, even if the coach is still going to get paid by the former team - if that former team doesn't want their coach then they shouldn't be able to rake in picks because it's clear they don't think he's good enough for their team

Meh. The teams are still paying fired coaches. They'll just "re-assign" them now if it means getting a decent pick.

Flames got Treliving in the nick of time as well.
Not the same

Jacobs/bruins lost 3 management/personnel

Zona was probably begging other teams to take treliving so they could cut costs

Reminds me of when Brent Sutter wanted to go to the Flames. If I remember correctly the Devils moved up in the draft that year, swapping picks with the Flames in the first and having to give up very little. Maybe that was a "hey thanks" move by the Flames.

I would expect some sort of sliding scale, where you have the coach/GM/POHO at the top, then you have assistant coaches, then you have positional coaches, then you have scouts. Or something like that.

Some of the personnel might like it too, because they could be in line for promotions if bumping them up a notch on paper gives the team draft pick protection.

What else would the Oilers have to give up if they swapped their Ice Girls for the Stars Ice Girls?

I'm not sure, but it would definitelly be a win for Edmonton as far as silicone is concerned.

I agree with this but maybe tweak it if the coach has a year or more left on his contract with his former team, less than a year and he should be fair game.
