Probably want to get to 90 wins to feel good about a playoff spot. Not a brutal schedule for the Sox, but no Abreu/Anthony really hurts. Still got concerns about the #4/5 starters, but getting Slaten back for the bullpen is huge (not to mention no more Hicks) and there's upside in Tolle.

I can't see how 89-73 would miss out unless there's some wacky tiebreaker scenario like the D-backs last year. Even 87-75 should be enough.

NL is a real bummer outside of the West division race. Part of why I don't like 12 playoff spots is you run the risk of obviously flawed teams (e.g. Mets, Mariners) still holding WC positions despite their best efforts not to.

Yankees/Blue Jays this weekend is obviously huge

But Astros/Rangers is pretty big also. A sweep by Houston probably effectively ends Texas's chances. A Rangers sweep would make things really interesting for the division and last WC

If Seattle keeps losing, there are 4-5 teams chasing that last WC spot

There are 20 to 22 games left and all the teams looking for the last WC slot are within 2 1/2 games of getting the last spot. I guess the question is who will get a little bit of fire in their hair and take it.

If remaining SOS plays out, it should be Seattle, but I'm not sure that means anything.

The NL appears a bit different, but the Giants are heating up and are 4 back right now. Giants have 21 games left to play and all are against 4 teams, Dodgers 7 , Arizona 6, Cards 5 and Rockies 3. This might get crazy too. Take a look at the above link, it could get nuts as the Padres show the easiest remaining schedule because of 6 remaining with the Rockies and 3 with the White Sox. The other teams they play are the Mets, Brewers, Arizona, and Reds.
