This topic should have gotten more traffic. With rc Owens passing is another in the line of one of the most exciting teams in league history. Alley Oop was the original Randy Moss as a 6'3" former basketball player plucking deep passes out of the air. Truly a loss to NFL history.
When I was a small child my father took me to the 49ers/Lions game at Kezar in 1960. It was a lot more casual then, and I got to get down on the field after the game and meet Owens and Tittle (Brodie too). They were all man-mountains to me, I was singularly impressed, and became a Niner fan for life. I was particularly amazed at how high RC could get above the Lions' DBs. As Niner Mind mentioned, the 'alley-oop' was a groundbreaking strategy, as was the shotgun formation, originally used (at least in the pros) by the Niners vs. Baltimore later that year, to counteract the Colts' pass rush.
