I think the defense improves. If Jaylon continues to struggle I am hoping he gets benched. I like Osa to replace Woods, whom IMO was not great at stopping the run or rushing the passer. Joseph is a better player than Awuzie IMO. Neal and Kazee are better safeties than Thompson and Wood. Lots of competition on defense

We are stuck with Jaylon this year.
I hope he plays well enough to keep around, but if he is benchable this year we can cut him next year. We will take a hit but still save cap space if need be.

I hope both Rookie DT's make the team this year.
Gallimore & those two could be a good combo in the middle if they play like we hope.

By default it has to.

I'm restraining my excitement this year.

He may be the biggest by week 1 but wasn't he only like 330lbs at his Pro day?

I have to say I'm pretty excited to see if this kid can do the job. Just clog the middle, take up blockers and free up other guys. If he can do it, I suspect we will see Jaylon and LVE play much better than they did last year...

A couple trips to Pizza hut is all that is needed to get him up to 335 pounds. Aso I predict will also be good at 1 tech. Letting Woods go was a wise idea. He should have been a backup.

This one is about Cox, but also goes a bit into one Jaylon Smith & disturbingly two how horrible our DC was last year & seemingly refuse to fix an obvious flaw in our defense.

I had a late 1st, high 2nd round grade on Cox. Really shocked he lasted until the 4th round. He is the type of defender I clamor for every draft and we pass. I had the same type of grade on Antoine Winfield last year and the Honey Badger several years ago. Somebody that has the instincts to make plays on the ball and forced turnovers in college

You couple that with Parsons who has crazy speed and the future LB core is in place. Maybe LVE stays healthy and somebody on the DL can occupy a blocker allowing these 3 guys to make plays?

You got the DC part right. Any DC that gave Dorance Armstrong snaps over Gregory deserves to be gone. Its like total stupidity. Armstrong never developed it was obvious to everybody but Nolan. Also starting Thompson over Wilson was another mistake . Just so many mistakes made by the former DC. Quinn understands how to evaluate talent and put them into position to make plays.

I'm still expecting Parsons to rush a lot off the edge in the nickel. I think between Tank, Gregory and him we only need a couple of guys to step up as rotation guys and we'll be OK there. Can we also get a push up the middle and can our secondary cover well enough to be a good defense? No, I don't think so, but if we can get a good edge pass rush maybe we can get some turnovers or sacks to at least make our defense "good enough" and if Cox and or Neal can help out and make us better on the short stuff I think that can help too. Man, what I would give to add one real good DB to this group. I think it would change the whole team.

tell ya what...that T/O play Keanu Neal made has seldom been seen in these parts for a very long time

Keanu & Parsons look to me like LB snap leaders starting the season.
Parsons and Neal know how to avoid getting washed out of running plays. Parsons may be better than advertised. very impressed with him. He can be a top 5 linebacker in the NFL by next season IMO. We have not had a linebacker like him in decades
