Let's say a player is forced to retire due to injury but has a couple years left on his contract. How does that count against the cap.

As a hypothetical, let's say he is 34 now and last signed an extension when he was 33.

IF he was under 36 when the contract was signed, he can retire without it counting against the cap.

IF he was 36 or older when the contract was signed, the cap hit remains on the books. The team would likely talk him into retiring after the contract is over and remaining on LTIR.

Well word is that Poti's cocncussions may be career ending. He wants to be able to actually converse with his kids. :(. Sad as he is a good player and nice guy, but I was wondering what it meant for the cap.

Thanks!
