Manziel just singed for 8 Mil and 4 Mil guaranteed.... I was under the impression the collective bargaining agreement kept rookie salaries lower ... The day's of unproven players getting HUGE deals was a thing of the past... I realize this deal isn't HUGE but it's fairly large considering he's unproven...

Looking at the 2010 draft prior to the current CBA), the 22nd pick was Demaryius Thomas, He signed for 5 years @$15.5M, $9.35 guarantee.
That is about twice what JFF got, however look at how payrolls have gone up since 2010.

Considering that Sam Bradford got, what like 300 billion guaranteed a few years ago, I don't see anything wrong with a 2 mil per contract for a 1st round pick.

The rookie pay scale fits perfectly with what Manziel got. If you look at the player drafted right before him in Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix he got a 4-year $8.33 million contract, $7.55 million guaranteed, and a $4.38 million signing bonus. So Manziel got a little more of his contract guaranteed (about the only part of the contract that is negotiable) but overall Clinton-Dix makes just a bit more than him. Like I said the only part of the contract that is really up for debate is that of the guaranteed money. The rest of it has to fall in line with the rookie pay scale. This is why players are still reporting to Camps even without having signed a contract as no matter what the contract has to happen whether they are injured or not. Only thing an injury could hurt them on is a little bit of the guaranteed money if that would happen before they signed but that is usually very unlikely.

No argument there... But Bradford struck that gold before the changes were made...

So it sounds like there is still and incentive to be a 1st round pick because they get substantially more than the lower picks with the rookie contracts...

Obviously 1st round players get paid more. Comes with the territory. They still get paid pretty decent just not the ridiculous levels it was getting to.

He's the 38th highest paid QB as far as average cap hit per year. That actually seems a little low IMO for a first wound pick.

Still kinda crazy when you think Russ is making less than Manziel right now.... His salary is about 660,000 a year.... Obviously that's gonna change soon in a big way... BUT still crazy when you think about it...
