As a Cincinnati Fan, I wish nothing but the best for Sorsby and I hope he can overcome this issue in his life, and find a way to become a productive NFL QB.

He should never play another snap of NCAA football again, though.

He better hope some NFL team will take him or else he'll be working at Dick's Sporting Goods, with his basket weaving major.
After the judge refuses to grant this injunction, we'll start to see the articles talking his near-term future in pretty short order. I'd wager Team Sorsby has already talked to the NFL about a supplemental draft, I doubt they liked what they heard. I can't believe they would have spent the time/money to file an appeal with the NCAA and seek a court injunction if the NFL was a viable option for 2026/27.

So where to if no TTU or NFL this season? TBD.

Either Dick's Sporting Goods or the CFL.

Certainly his best option in terms of money and level of competition. Ironically, it's not against the CFL rules for its players to bet on anything  except CFL games. So it's unlikely the league would hold his betting while in college against him. Where he could face problems is being admitted by the Canadian government.

Even in the best geopolitical of times, guys hoping to go north to play have found they couldn't even get into Canada due to past minor indiscretions in the US. In the current political climate, who knows how things could go.

Some team will take a chance with him in the supplemental draft.
Agreed, if there is a supplemental draft. The league is not obligated to hold it, however. I can't imagine Team Sorsby being willing to challenge the CBA between the NFL and NFLPA if they simply told him, "No." Easy way to pocket veto the whole episode.

As I said earlier, I have a sneaking suspicion the NFL has already told Team Sorsby, at least unofficially, there will be no be supplemental draft this year. Probably would make him eligible for the 2027 draft. In that case, where to from there for his immediate future? If I'm correct, we'll soon see articles asking that very question.

If there is no supplemental draft......then yes 2027.

I imagine TTU boosters are doing the heavy lifting with the NCAA.

Now the question is soon to become, are the portal tampering rules worth the fines and losing McGuire for half a season?

Boosters probably paid for it, but it still required the time and effort of his legal team. It's actually a clever legal strategy. They concentrated their efforts against the NCAA, both through the Association's own processes and in court, where they at least had/have a chance to win. They know they have no chance to successfully challenge the NFL/NFLPA CBA if it comes to that.

Might have considered it if they could have had the guy in for spring ball, but I can't see doing it now.

Eh, spring ball is too close to not having a decision officially on Sorsby.

Their schedule is a cakewalk as is, losing McGuire isn’t going to be a big deal in the first part of the year. Wouldn’t hurt at that point to introduce a QB during that period anyway.

Six games puts him out for

Abilene Christian
@Oregon State
Houston
Sam Houston
@Colorado
Bye Week
Arizona State

Losing that bye and ASU is tough, but it’s certainly an easy thing for them to do if they can convince a QB to leave.

I don't see how he gets any eligibility. Sorsby's case relies on his own admission that he bet on IU while at IU to "feel connected". He was made aware of the betting rules, consequences, etc...long before he made his first bet on IU and if he truly was suffering from a mental illness/anxiety about being separated from the team - there are a TON of resources for students (and even more for athletes) in which he could have enrolled in to help mitigate those issues. It's one of the worst cop-outs I've ever heard from someone trying to avoid the consequences of their actions....and that includes an abundance of excuses over the years from my 4 kids...lol

I just can’t wrap my head around the mental gymnastics they’re jumping through to keep him eligible.

The best PR thing to do, to ensure his future eligibility for employment, would’ve been to withdraw from TTU, enter rehab and put himself at the mercy of the NFL and the Supplemental Draft immediately.

Even if the legal teams are separate, what they are doing to get Sorsby back into TTU is probably being met with a ton of side eye and eye rolling by the NFL and the powers in play who would determine his eligibility for the Supplemental Draft. And really, the Supplemental Draft is Sorsby’s best play if he is ineligible for the NCAA. Wait too long, and a one year layoff, with a stacked draft class incoming, is basically going to make him a Late Day 3 pick, and possibly even an UDFA once you factor in the off-field stuff.
