Since the start of August Jake Arrieta has allowed 4 earned runs. Here's a stat that will put that in perspective. There isn't a regular starting pitcher in baseball that doesn't have at least 1 start since August 1st where they allowed 4 runs in 1 game.... not one. Not Greinke, not Kershaw, not Price. No one. Not one gut in ALL baseball that hasn't allowed at least 4 runs in a start since August 1st and Arrieta has allowed that in 2 months. That is fucking amazing.

Number of games this season where Greinke has given up 4 or more runs: 2 times

Number of games this season where Arrieta has given up 4 or more runs: 4 times

Arrieta did it 3 times in May alone, Greinke has been more consistent throughout the season. Last time Greinke did it was August 6th, so yeah, not a very meaningful stat there.

There are three pitchers in the NL this year who are 100% deserving of the CY. You can't really talk bad about any of them.
It really is rare. In most any other year any one of these 3 guys would be a shoe in. Just happens they are all doing it the same year. I truly think it's down to Arrieta and Greinke though. No bad choice there

I will not lock my "vote" until Sunday night / Monday morning, but right now I am leaning towards Greinke / Arrieta / Kershaw.

Yep. That's how I have it too but there may not be a better 2 month stretch by a starter in the entire history of baseball than the one Arrieta is on. It's been unreal

Sorry, thought you were talking about starts where the pitcher has given up 4 or more runs. That's impressive but Greinke has had the better season overall. These past 2 months have merely helped get Arrieta's ERA closer to Greinke's. Pretty amazing that he's gone on this tear and still isn't the leader in ERA.

Gotcha. I agree actually but don't under sell these last 2 months by Arrieta. May be the greatest 2 month stretch ever. That also tells you how great Greinke has been all year, that he's still got a better era than Arrieta
