and no one cares? Ony 25 players have done it....

Albert Pujols' quiet road to an exclusive club

He's at 496... He probably has two or three more years left in him... Any change he gets to 600?

I just traded him away from my fantasy team so probably by seasons end.

It's amazing how quiet his approach to 500 homers has been. Seeing how he has no ties to PED's one would think the league and press would be making a big deal out of it. I wonder if it's because he plays on the West Coast now.

Health is the main concern with him. Can he stay healthy for the next couple of years. He still has quite a few years left on his contract. I think as long as he can play in about 120-140 games a year for the next 4-5 years he will get his 600+

But can Poo break the record for most home runs in a season after the age of 40 this year?

Raul Ibanez (now his teammate) tied it last year.

Best of luck to Poo!

If he was on the other LA team ESPN would be eating this up.

Its hard to believe that just 3 years ago he was considered by many the best player in the game. His career has really went south since joining the Angels.

That happens when players are near 40....

Pujols is only 34. He left St. Louis at 31 so I really dont think you can blame age for his decline. I would blame it on switching leagues and seeing new pitchers.

I only said players decline when they are near 40. Which is a generally true statement...

It is very sad that Pujols is declining early. I wonder if it will make people think he is lying about his real age...

I think he is out of his comfort zone as well. He was a hero in St. Louis and could do no wrong no matter what. He had that comfort form his teammates and the fans. Switching teams he became the savior of the Angels and when he got there HUGE things were about to happen for them. When he had a poor start I think it really went down hill from there. I don't think he likes the pressure of being the savior in a new city. I think he can be comfortable now because Hamilton is there is a good constant distraction and he has Mike Trout now who is the savior of the team. So now he can fade back and be just another player. It's kind of sad really. Just as a baseball fan I would've liked to see him finish his career in St. Louis.

In all fairness though, his last season in St. Louis was the worst of his career at that point and much worse than his prior few seasons at that point.

Sluggers tend not to age so well in the 30s and many appear to see a steeper decline in a quicker amount of time than the average player (whether by injury or decline), and he may be another one to add to the list.

Yeah gotta go with these I'm afraid. 500 doesn't get quite the pub it used to since all of the PED crap surfaced... not necessarily about Albert.... and 5 guys have cracked 600 in the last 10 years.
