I ran across this tonight and it was just posted early this morning. I have not heard or read anything about Price and Mariners for over a week so not sure what it all means if anything.

MLB Trade Rumors: Seattle Mariners Set To Trade For David Price of Tampa Bay Rays

The Seattle Mariners are reportedly working on a trade that would give them former Cy Young winner and Tampa Bay Rays ace hurler David Price, a source close to situation reported over the weekend.
The Mariners are apparently not done yet in their pursuit of a title-contending squad. After acquiring slugger Robinson Cano on a lucrative deal, the Mariners are reportedly trying to land another formidable pitcher to further bolster their pitching rotation.

ESPN Baseball insider David Schoenfield, who already predicted Shin-Soo Choo's signing with the Texas Rangers, believed the Mariners will pursue hard to trade for the 2012 American League CY Young Winner.

Im still not sure how I feel about bringing Price in. I honestly believe the price for Price is a little too steep, unfortunately I think the Mariners are willing to give in which. If the deal includes Walker I think this is a shit trade that will hurt the Mariners in the long run. I think there is a strong chance Walker can be in the rotation this season.

It feels like the Mariners are the guy at the poker table with a bunch of chips and no idea how to play poker. The Rays are about to win this hand.

I couldn't agree with you more. That same feeling of mistrust is why I think we end up with Cruz as well on an overpay since Seattle will be bidding against the Mariners.

After the comments Price's agent made about him being unwilling to sign an extension with the Mariners, I honestly have no idea why we'd still be pursuing this. We know that Tampa is gonna want a lot in return and since Price hasn't fired his agent since those comments were made, we have to assume that they're accurate. The only way this makes sense is if Zduriencik is able to pull a Jedi mind trick on Friedman to convince him that he doesn't really want Walker or Paxton or Miller or Zunino. That seems pretty unlikely.

Agreed. I wish they would just move on. Price's numbers weren't even all that great last year. Ironically enough, he had a WAR less than Fister's. If only.

Fuck Price.

He said he would sign an extension with other teams, but wouldn't consider signing an extension here, so at best, he's here for 2 years. The M's aren't going to come close to contending in the next 2 years, so trading virtually anything of value for him is a misstep, IMO.

I'm a big fan of trades for building a great team, and feel the M's have underutilized it, and when they have tried, they have done it with extreme incompetence. This would be another of those, IMO.

So yeah, Z will probably do it.

Honestly even if Price would sign an extension with us, I don't think I would trade Paxton or Walker for him.

Those two are both major league ready, Paxton could be just as good as Price and Walker looks like he could be even better. The two are great prospects to begin with and the fact that they are both major league ready makes it even harder to trade them.

Our next best trade option is Zunino and the Mariners have zero other options at catcher so I wouldn't move him either.

Trading for Price is just trying to force something that does not need to happen. I think it would be a pretty huge mistake.

I'll play a little devils advocate.

I've grown tired of holding on to pieces that we still aren't sure are going to make it to the big club, we have a pretty good idea on Walker but Paxton is still up in the air, brings back memories of 'the little unit'. If the Mariners do have a plan of brining in another bat along with Price then I'm all for bringing in Price for the 2 years and taking the chance. This team can contend next year with two more big pieces. A rotation of Felix, Price and Kuma is pretty formidable.

If they made the trade and had to give up either Paxton or Walker along with say Franklin I could live with it, it will probably come back to bite us in the ass, because, well, we're the Mariners.

with all that being said, if they give up Zunino I'll freak out....

I wouldnt trade Walker straight up for Price honestly. If Tampa was able to give up Shields to get Wil Meyers, I cant imagine them settling for anything less then a Wil Meyers type prospect for Price. I guess the thing that works in our favor is that Tampa obviously desperate to unload him this off season and also no other team seems to be seriously in on him.
However it seems like until Tanaka is off the board, the pitching market will be on hold.

Well everything I wanted to say has been said. Now lets get Tanaka. I don't care about Price, and I think it's distasteful to say no extension (rumors are rumors though). We can't be 100% but I believe he doesn't want to come to Seattle so eff 'em.
