Given how Haren, Weaver, Josh Johnson, and a couple other pitchers that are aces but are obviously not top 3 in mlb (Halladay, Felix, Lincecum, 4 if we're talking in January with Wainwright,) have started the season (I know SSS, but just counting guys who have a track record of being dominant,) how would you rank the rest of the top 15 pitchers in the mlb? Do you agree with the top 3 I've posted above?
I think I'd go with:
4. Josh Johnson
5. Cliff Lee
6. Jared Weaver
7. Jon Lester
8. Ubaldo Jimenez
9. Justin Verlander
10. Charleston Chew Sabathia
11. Clayton Kershaw
12. Dan Haren
13. Zack Greinke
14. Matt Cain
15. Cole Hamels
HM: Francisco Liriano, Brett Anderson, Roy Oswalt, Tommy Hanson, Chris Carpenter, Mat Latos
I'm just ranking them based on my gut and numbers I've seen in seasons past like K/9, IP, and ERA+ (not fWAR since the more I see about DIPS theory the less I agree with it.) What did you use to rank these pitchers? I'm interested to see what everybody else thinks. Let me know if I have any glaring omissions.
