It's just been announced that Presley and McPherson have been recalled ahead of the August 31 deadline which sets playoff eligibility.

- D'Arnaud was optioned and Clement was outrighted to Indy to make room for Presley and McPherson on the 25-man roster.

- I'm a bit surprised that they took McPherson over Locke. Appears that they've been very impressed with McPherson such that he has passed Locke in the pecking order.

- Obviously, we'll see more call-ups in September, but perhaps they'll wait until Indianapolis finishes in the AAA play-offs.

McPherson is taller and right handed, should have been obvious to us that NH would like him better. Plus McPherson is likely to be working out of the bullpen, Locke will almost assuredly be up tomorrow to pitch in Milwaukee.

I am still kind of surprised that Bryan Morris still has not earned a shot to come up and contribute at the major league level.

Mags, I believe Jeff Clement & Chase D'Arnaud were sent to Bradenton today. Bradenton's season ends Sunday. So, when the rosters expand tomorrow, Clement & D'Arnaud can be called back up right away & will not have to sit out the mandatory 10 days that they would have, had they been sent to AAA Indy.

Yep, it was a paper move to send them down....they were talking about it on the broadcast last night.

Pirates Prospects Pirates to Call Up Five in First Wave of September Callups

5 more on the way. Surprised they promoted Holt. I'm really hoping he is the next Jeff Keppinger, and not the next Brian Bixler.

PP has been doing a pretty impressive job of breaking news BEFORE the traditional media. Apparently, they really DO have some inside sources.

A couple of additional thoughts:

- I, too, am surprised at Holt's promotion. Seems unlike the Pirates' normal pattern. On the other hand, it's hard to argue against promoting a guy who's hitting .432 at AAA.

- Everyone is assuming that Clement will be brought right back after Bradenton finishes their season. However, Clement passed through waivers and was outrighted, which means that he's no longer on the 40-man roster..... which means that he will need to be put back on the 40-man and someone else will need to come off before Clement can come back to the Pirates.

Very true, Mags. From what I have seen since Clement has been up has been unimpressive. He has trouble making contact, and he looks off balance at the plate, so any contact has been weak. Albeit, he has not had very many ab's. Maybe the Pirates are through with him.

Although, there are still guys on the 40-man who are expendable; D Cutch, Meek, d'Arnaud, Hague, and I just realized that Oscar Tejada is on the 40-man, don't even know who he is.

Another surprise: Clement DID come right back up.

Not a surprise: Tejeda was DFA'd to make room for Clement. I never understood why they picked up Tejeda in the first place.
