Toronto looks to avoid a franchise record-tying 10th consecutive defeat when it visits the NHL co-leading Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.
The Maple Leafs (22-25-4) have plenty of ground to make up in order to qualify for their second playoff appearance in the last 10 seasons, but their lackluster play continues to diminish that possibility.
They've been outscored 25-7 during an 0-8-1 stretch after falling 1-0 to Philadelphia on Saturday to begin a three-game road trip.
"Never seen this before," said interim coach Peter Horachek, who is 1-9-1 since taking over for the fired Randy Carlyle on Jan. 7. "This is something that we have to learn from and get better. I'm not happy about the results that have been happening. We have to find ways to get pucks in the net."
The Maple Leafs dropped 10 straight to set the franchise record Jan. 15-Feb. 8, 1967, and this is their longest skid since 1985-86. Toronto's nine straight road defeats are the most since dropping its first 10 away from home to begin the 1990-91 season.
