For this thread, we will be strictly looking at eligible, non-HOF players who are no longer on the annual ballot (so no Pete Rose or current players or PED guys still on the ballot. Or if they are current players, they shouldn't be shoo-ins for the first ballot when they retire). Just post your player, and give a little write-up as to why he should be remembered. OK, here goes.

Bill Skowron. He helped his team win the World Series five times (four with the Yankees) and was an All-Star eight times. He knocked in the winning run in Game 6 of the 1958 World Series. He put up his best season in 1960 when he hit .309/.353/.528 with a .385 wOBA. For his career, he finished with a 118 wRC+ and a 28.6 WAR in 6046 PA. Not Hall of Fame worthy, but certainly a nice little career as a first baseman

I should wait to give Don Kelly his due. Don't need to ruin it for other players.

Hal McRae - was on the early Reds team in the postseason and was on most of the Royals postseason teams.

Willie Wilson/Frank White - Brett gets a lot of the credit but in baseball 1 player doesn't make great teams.

Kevin Appier. 140 ERA+ from 90-97, 3rd most fWAR over that span (40.2, behind only Maddux and Clemens (albeit by a lot, but they're two of the greatest pitchers of all-time)).

Corey Koskie. Short career, but he had a 24.2 JAWS, good for 83rd all time among third baseman. Great defensive player (73.8 Fielding and Positional Adjustment combined), and was no slouch at the plate. He finished his career with a very respectable .825 OPS and a 113 wRC+ in 3950 PA

Not to mention, probably should've won the 1993 AL Cy.

The recently deceased Tony Phillips. He was fantastic.

Great example of an underrated player. Fangraphs said since the All-Star era began (1933), Tony Phillips had the highest career WAR of any player to not be selected to an All-Star team

Earle Combs. Yes, he had a short career, and yes, he was helped by the era and team he played for, but he still finished with a career 127 wRC+ (which is league and park adjusted). Widely regarded as one of the most easy-going, agreeable players of his era, he was a part of three world championships and set the Yankee record for most triples in a season (23 in 1927). In four different World Series, he had a .443 OBP. He isn't as well known because he wasn't a power hitter, but definitely a great player (.397 OBP in 6507 PA) and a key factor in all those Yankees' World Series victories
