So the Seahawks and Niners are tied for 1st in the NFC West. Things could get really interesting if the following happens.

Seahawks win 3 of their remaining 4 games but lose to the Niners on Week 17
The Niners lose this weekend to the Saints and then win their remaining games
The Redskins win 3 of their last 4
The Eagles win 1 of their last 4
Packers win 3 of their last 4
Vikings win their last 4 games.

If that were to happen the Seahawks and Niners would both have 13-3 records.

So the tie breaking rules are as follows..

Head-to-Head - Split
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division - Split
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games - Split
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference - Split
Strength of victory - Their only different games are their NFC North and NFC East matches. The Vikings and Packers would have the same record and the Eagles and the Redksins would have the same record. Split
Strength of schedule - See above. Split
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed - This is probably where it would break but it could potentially split as well. Currently the Seahawks would be at +66 and the Niners are at -84.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. Same as above.
Best net points in common games. - The Niners would have the a big advantage here and pretty much ended things.

I can't think of a recent time when 2 teams would have had such similar results. Assuming that it plays out the way it did which it probably won't but it is certainly a reasonable possibility.

I was discussing this yesterday with someone and it does seem more than likely that it comes down to strength of victory in this case. The Seahawks and Niners splits could happen but the Redskins aren't winning 3 of the last 4 to fulfill the full nightmare scenario.

Still interesting though.

So the Eagles will help the Seahawks avoid the Eagles in round 1.

You're welcome.

Will be fun to see what happens. The NFL playoffs are always fun to see with the scenarios.

All I really want to know about tiebreakers is how we can get the Skins in over the Eagles and 'Boys. Now that would be a laugh riot. :D

Or the Giants for that matter.
Lol Harold. I think that one might be reaching a bit but yeah, that would be hilarious too. Actually, if the Gmen were to knock the Eagles out, that would truly be funny and enough to make me smile through fucking Christmas.

.

Maybe that would help me forget.....

the last season which the Patriots did not win the AFC East was in 2008, when the Dolphins beat them in a tiebreaker.

"Despite entering the last week of the season with a three-game winning streak, the Patriots found themselves not controlling their own destiny. In addition to a Week 17 win, they also needed either a Dolphins loss to win the AFC East, or a Baltimore Ravens loss to earn a wild card berth. However, both Baltimore and Miami won, and the Dolphins, Ravens and Patriots each finished the season with an 11–5 record. Miami qualified for the playoffs by winning the AFC East division over the Patriots on the fourth divisional tiebreaker (better conference record: 8–4 to 7–5). Baltimore qualified for the playoffs as a wild card team, defeating the Patriots on the second wild card tiebreaker (better conference record: 8–4 to 7–5). Because of this, the Patriots were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2002."
