In my view, it has less to do with the talent we have and more to do with finding new talent. One of the things I dislike about the 3-4 is that it is very hard to find two key components for that scheme, NT and OLB. A really good NT is like 6'2" and 350lbs and eats up a C and G while collapsing the pocket. Cofield does and admirable job, but thats not his natural position. He rarely collapses the pocket, but he does play the run pretty well. Really good NTs are a rarity. Similarly, finding a natural OLB is difficult. We usually covert college DEs and they suffer in pass coverage. We've seen that here. These 3 positions are critical to a successful 3-4. Its much easier to find natural DTs and DEs for a 4-3. For this reason, I'd welcome a switch.

:10: That has been the biggest issue. We never got the pieces to run the 3-4 correctly. Not sure why kerrigan and orakpo couldn't both play ends. Brandon Jenkins obviously could be developed too. If we stayed in the 3-4, we must get a legit NT, a DE that can get to the QB and an above average S.

i think both of them playing at the same time at 4-3 de would make the d/line too small at de . that is just me . i like big tall de's with speed and big tall cbs speed

They would both have to beef up and add 15-20 lbs but they could do that.

Hard to say. If most of it were muscle, then yes. Many have made that transition. Honestly, speed isn't Raks game, necessarily. His main move as a pass rusher is a semi bull rush while trying to sneak under the tackle's outside arm. He's never really developed a good inside or counter move. SO if he is going to live on that, extra weight would probably help.

BTW, I personally think that Kerrigan, over rak, could make the transition to OLB although I don't want to see it. He is better in coverage and a better all around athlete. I'd rather he bulk up 5-10 lbs a year for the next couple of years and be a very athletic DE. Kinda in the mold of a Chris Long. He's only about 10 lbs bigger than Kerrigan.
