How was it on both sides of ball? Didn't get a chance to watch yet.

Was very vanilla on defense, not much blitzing which is to be expected in the preseason unless you are going up against a team that was embarrassed last year in the playoffs by the Seahawks and want to make a statement. Offense couldn't tell, the Saints were sending everyone and our Oline wasn't blocking anyone, our QB's had literally no time.

It was very vanilla on offense for us too.

I remember watching Stanford games last year...there were so many shifts and motions within that offense. Last night's game ididn't showcase any of that, which is proof that the preseason games are nothing but a situation to help players get their legs back into it. Not a tool to assess play calling.

Yeah it looked nothing like the Stanford offense.

Why show your gameplan in a meaningless game

don't think its so much this? to me, they're just trying to get everyone in sync with the 'base' scheme? i'm sure most know their basic assignments, but thinking about them really gelling, get timing down, getting comfortable with the next guy, relaying adjustments, etc.

easy example is pass blocking, who's supposed to pick up whom? how much "help" does one provide the next guy? which side does the RB look first? how well does the TE read blitz?

as the players really get the basics down, they can add more things such as motion.

Play Scheme is designed for your strengths on offense, it should not be used so much to try to confuse the defense as much as it is to get the ball to the most effective players!
Just like they spread us out for the 2nd zone passes and then in the red zone draw plays! Only one or 2 quick hitting plays for our O!

I get what you are saying, but your record in the preseason is nothing. If Harbaugh thinks he has some great plays and schemes up his sleeve, no use in letting everyone know what they are in the preseason.
