Seems like when the pitching has been getting better as of late the offense has gone the other direction... They can get people on but can't get that crucial hit.

The East is not going to be the Red Sox if this keeps up

Double Plays

This passed weekend was god awful. Thought it was going to be an eye opener for the Red Sox

Well, the offense has been frustrating. They're last in the AL in home runs, though they are 6th in the AL in runs scored and 4th in the AL in OBP. Overall, they have a 95 OPS+, which would be one of the worst among Sox teams in my lifetime. That being said, this August has actually been a good month for them (.264/.341/.448 and 131 runs in 24 games). The good thing is they no longer really have any black holes in the lineup, but outside of Devers and Nunez (who have only 248 PA combined), the Sox don't have a hitter with an OPS+ north of 107. You would think some of those guys would hit better, but I also wouldn't expect Devers and Nunez to hit like they have been.

Hard to complain about the pitching. They have a 120 ERA+ (the 2007 squad had a 123 ERA+). This is one of the best Sox pitching staffs I've ever watched, even with the inconsistent bullpen.

Well I still would put Hanley as a "black-hole" in the line-up. He's either hit or miss. Really need Xander and Mookie to return to even close to what they did last year.

I just still hate having a line-up of Hanley 4th and Young 5th!

I certainly wouldn't consider it a good season for Hanley. A 100 OPS+ from a DH is pretty mediocre. He's been worth 0.3 WAR (about replacement level). The Hanley contract hasn't been much better than the Panda contract, though Hanley at least played a pretty big role in their 2016 division title.

What's even more amusing about the Hanley contract is that he doesn't get nearly as much ire as J.D. Drew did, and he probably won't come close to providing nearly as much value as Drew did and makes more money. Hanley's been worth 1.8 WAR over the contract so far. Drew was worth 11.4 wins in 5 seasons in Boston. Drew was an above average player in his first 4 seasons (and was one of the best outfielders in the AL in 2008-09). Drew has even had several big hits in the postseason.

Yes he has been extremely disappointing yet he continues to be put into the 4th spot
