Pirates 2013 Draft

Pirates First 20 rounds of the draft:

2013 - 18/21 signed (as of 7.4.13 - unsigned are the picks from rounds 7, 11 and 20)
2012 - 16/21 signed
2011 - 12/20 signed
2010 - 13/20 signed
2009 - 14/21 signed
2008 - 15/20 signed

Any idea why the Pirates have been able to sign so many top picks so far this year? Is it the new slotting system? Different approach by the Pirates? There is still a month plus (August 15th?) to lock up the rest of the players.

I think its july 15 now.


In our big spending drafts, We had fallback plans, if A doesnt sign spend money on B, now its just sign everyone.

It's rumored a lot of teams are calling kids and asking their prices before they sign, if they do fit the price range they draft him, although that is illegal, many think it is happening.

I think it could be a combination of the slotting system and the Pirates having lower picks this year than in the past. Perhaps it's not a massive impact, but it could be just enough.
