Alright, I'm a little late posting this, but let's do our little contest again! Post your predictions for the Pirates' record this year. First come, first served, only one poster per record.

I figure since I'm late posting the game, we'll allow entries until the end of the Bucs' game on Sunday to give folks enough time to get their predictions in, if that's okay with everyone. Not too much should be given away in the first week of the season.

Midseason Update

We are at the exact midpoint of the season after today's game, and the Pirates are at 47-34, a .580 winning percentage, and are on pace for a record of 94-68, which puts Ewa PGH Fan on pace to win this year's prediction contest. No one has been eliminated, of course, because no one picked 160-2 this year.

Always interesting to look at predictions in hindsight, I think, and these two had extra details I find interesting.

Crow sold the Bucs short record-wise, but like the rest of the universe, did not foresee what the Cards ended up doing. Heck, when I took 97-65, I figured the Bucs would have home field through the playoffs, and instead they're going to be in the Wild Card game again.

Psaboy had reasonable concerns about our pitching, both starters and bullpen, since there were numerous concerns heading into the season. Liriano's always an injury risk, Cole wasn't yet an ace, no one was sure how Burnett would perform after last season, and our 'pen was full of question marks after Watson and Melancon, with and unlikely breakout from Caminero, solid performances from Bastardo and Hughes which weren't givens, and contributions from various other arms throughout the season, bolstered by the deadline acquisitions of Soria and Blanton.

In summary, baseball is funny.

Cueto dominated us all year in 2013, and we torched him in the Wild Card game. We could do the same to Arrieta.

I wouldn't use that as an example. It was only 2 outings against Cueto in 2013, both before June 1. Arrieta is dominating NOW.

I will add, looking forward to 2016, Bucs have the bats, need 2 staring pitchers. Burnett gone and I would think Morton replacement would be upgrade.
