After a pretty good but weird race in England, F-1 moves to Austria where the same storylines continue onward. The Mercs apparently have found the answer to their Bunny-Rabbit bouncing and Hamilton ended-up on the podium for the first time in awhile. Perhaps, Hamilton and the Mercs will refine their changes and they will once again become a consistent force in what has developed into a three-team battle. Ferrari continues to march forward with Sainz, as LeClerc continues to falter. Red Bull is always lurking, albeit Verstappen has stumbled a bit in the last several races to have but Perez has forged forward. Should be another good chapter in this crazy 2022 season in the quest for the F-1 Championship!

think it will be cool if we get to where one of 6 drivers could win any given race.

Yep, Schmoopy. F-1 is evolving into that very scenario.

Merc showed some pace to mix it up with Ferrari and RB and Alpine and Haas were strong. But then both Mercs had sudden loss or rear downforce and crashed out of q3. No penalties and they start 4 and 9, when both were on front row pace. Perez was strong but exceeded track limits, so he starts P13.

Here you all go.

The Sprint Qualifying Races for this year have some changes for the Three Sprints F-1 is doing again. Last year, the Sprint Races were Silverstone, Monza, and Interlago. This year it will be Imola (this race), Red Bull Ring (Austrian GP), and Interlagos ) or Brazilian GP. The name Sprint Qualifying has been changed to just Sprints. Austrian GP Sprint is the Second Sprint, and the Brazilian GP is the Third.

The final finishing order of the Sprints determines the grid for the Sunday Grand Prix. So you'll need to wait until the Sprints on Saturday are completed before selecting the normal four finishers for the Sunday full-blown Grand Prix like we normally do. The starting order of the Sprints this year is determined by qualifying that takes place on Friday

Also new for this year: F-1 is now paying points in the Sprints from 1st all the way down to 8th. We will shall do the same and you can change your selections up to Saturday morning/afternoonish before the engines fire. We will entertain all 8 finishing spots in the Sprints with the following awarded points that are identical to what F-1 is awarding the drivers and cars:

1st-8 points, 2nd-7 points, 3rd-6 points, 4th-5 points, 5th-4 points, 6th-3 points, 7th-2 points, and 8th will be 1 point. You can potentially score 36 points if you run the table. If you run the table you'll receive a bonus of 15 points for a grand total 51.

This point system is only for the Sprints. When we go back to the Grand Prix, our usual points will be awarded to the top four spots with all rules in effect that we started the season with.

So, those of you that wanted more points-paying opportunities, you got your wish for three races this year. Once again, those races will be Imola (this GP), Red Bull Ring (Austrian GP), and Interlagos (Brazilian GP).

I'll let everyone know that a given race has a Sprint included. Have some fun and you have until tomorrow morning/afternoonish before the engines fire to come up with all eight picks. If you only want to play just four picks you can. Or five picks, that too. Eight picks are available.

And now... ...If you run the table and get all 8 picks correct, I'll throw in a bonus of 15 points for this year (I already mentioned this but just a reminder). Any questions, you know where to find me.

Forty_Three, you only need 8 selections. If you want to play 10, you can, but you only get points for the first 8. Just a reminder.

does anyone lose spots if they have to do anything to their cars for a sprint race?

Too many pics for a stupid BS sprint race. We had a better system for it last year. This is silly. And impossible to pick.

But whatever.

Given everyone picks the same 4 or 5 drivers every real race, I dig this format

my problem is there is more points in the fake short race than the longer one that counts.
Maybe should be 1/2 pt. increments :noidea:

(Also it didnt help me that I missed the 1st one LOL)

Well, we only have one more Sprint after tomorrow as opposed to the five we had last year. The Brazilian GP is at the end of the season, so you won't see this agony again for awhile. You don't have to play either which remains an option or you can just choose the top 4 or 5 or whatever.
