As Harang, Billingsly, and Williams move on, Phillies starting pitching staff will gradually take shape over the next 2 years. Hopefully, Nola, Buchanan, Morgan can turn out to be winners. Two RHP prospects at AA Reading worth following are:

Zack Eflin, 21, 5-4, 2.88, 42K, 16 BB
Ben Lively, 23, 7-7, .3.61, 75K, 35 BB

Others include:
Tom Windle, 23, LHP, does not look promising right now - AA Reading, 3-5, 5.03, 50K, 43 BB.
Jesse Biddle, 23, LHP, AA, 7-2, .778, 4.24, 57K, 34 BB; AAA 2 games, 6.75. Has possibilities if he can overcome control problems.
Severino González, 22, RHP, Phils, 7 games 7.92, is a lightweight at 155 lbs. Maybe he'll need a knuckle ball to survive.

Optimistically, there should be three future aces here somewhere.

Three future Aces? I think not. 3 future rotation pitchers, probably. Although somebody could be converted to a long reliever. Once Hamels is traded we will no longer have a true number one pitcher. Hamels is the only number one to come up through the system in many years. Most often you have to buy or trade for a true number one starter. Seems to me that the Phillies will need to obtain at least one starting pitcher by trade or free agency next season. By the way, Biddle picked up his 2nd win at Lehigh last night. But He is still struggling with control issues.

Possibilities are endless but you can never tell. Yeah, Phils will need some solid trades to add to any of those pitchers who survive. Just looking at the careers of guys like Ethan Martin and Jon Pettibone tells us how difficult the whole rebuilding thing really is.

Former prospect Jarred Cosart, now with Miami, is 1-4, 5.36, 29K, 20 BB. All the guys mentioned on this page will need time to fully develop. It's a real crap shoot.

I don't know if optimistic is the word I would use. Maybe bat shit crazy would fit better. We will be lucky if any of those guys are quality number 3 or 4 SP's on a possible contender in the far distant future.

Aaron Nola is potentially a true #1

? Nola was drafted only a year ago and is now on the big league club. Potentially he is a ace on any team.

I was speaking about Eflin, Lively, Windle, Biddle, Gonzalez Buchanan and Morgan. But as far as Nola goes. I think he settles in as a strong #2 long term.
