I still don't know how they are going to come up with a decent starting rotation. Cole would be great but he will definitely require "stupid money" . (but he's only 28 so he should have several good years ahead). I have no problem with Hoskins per se, but if they signed Grandal it might give them some options. You could trade Hoskins and put Grandal at first and Bohm at 3rd, or maybe there is a team that would trade a starting pitcher for Realmuto or Realmuto and Hoskins and you could have Grandal catching and Bohm at first. If you don't have complete confidence in Bohm, maybe get a left handed guy to play some first base like Matt Adams or Eric Thames.

Trade Realmuto? Never! There would be a fan riot!

Why give proven quality away. They should have enough money to get some starters and/or a hot hitting FA.

I am not sure the ownership and McPhail have a clue of what to do. I agree with jvett. WE are going to be a shithole for some time to come.

So is everyone but hoping and actually having things occur that will make the Phillies a contender may be and is a very long wait these days, Northeast.

I'll step out of the dark...

I am glad Kappler is gone... I didn't like his initial signing.
Phillies got a much better manager in Joe. This doesn't solve the talent issues in pitching. At least there won't be people playing Fortenite during the game.
Gerrit Cole should be a big priority of the team to acquire.
I wouldn't mind seeing the old Cole come back.
We could spend some more money on relief pitching.
Pay the catcher...

Middleton said he was OK spending stupid money... so lets go get some free agents!

Here is a short list some of the talent out there at SP that Joe and company should consider. They are in no particular order of importance but all of them would be an upgrade of what we now have to some degree. The ERA is a starting point for evaluation and money considerations. I say cut the dead-weight and go after real talent.

Stephen Strasburg- 3.32 ERA
Dallas Keuchel-3.75
Hyun-Jin Ryu-2.32
Rich Hill-2.46
Gerrit Cole-2.50

Sentimental Favs-Cole Hamels, 3.81 ERA.

An entirely revamped minor league system is needed, from drafting to coaching.
Klentac must go. I am sure Middleton gave him a final warning but should have canned his ass.

Looks like the FA pitcher from the Astros, Gerritt Cole is the new focus of Girardi
and company in signing in this off-season.

Two other pitchers on the radar are Wheeler and Strasburg.

Strasberg on the Phils would obviously be fantastic. However, I don't think he'd want to leave WSH now, wants another WS, and Nats would want to sign him for good money. Wheeler, 30, would be fine. 11-8, 3.96, 196 Ks, only 50 walks.

Signing him will handcuff the Phillies far into the future IMO. They need to go another route. One player does not a team make.
