It sure is, also NTC in it.

Yeah and isn't the cap going down next year?

Edit: ltd no-trade.

I'd be AMAZED if the cap went down next year. If the US shows strong in hockey again, the NHL's gonna clean up this year.

You look at the numbers Kessel has put up and the contract is not out of line when compared to other players. I just don't see Kessel as the guy that you want to build your team around though, great complimentary player (like Hossa on the Hawks).

Edit: Wow, just took a look at the Hossa contract, it sure drops off at the end to drag that cap hit down to 5.275 million.

Good to have him signed. The money and terms are probably on par with what he'd have gotten July 1st. This isn't a bad deal, but Phil didn't do the Leafs any favours, either.

Top 10 scoring for the last two years.

jonasTSN1050: As per release, only three players have more goals than Kessel’s 89 over the last three seasons: Stamkos, Perry and Ovechkin.

Yup, when you look at the numbers, the contract isn't out of line.

His numbers make him that kind of contract. Not sure I would want him as my center piece player though.

I don't think the Leafs had a choice. They gave up a lot to acquire him. If they were to allow him to walk away at the end of the year it only would have made the deal look worse than it already was.

How amazing would it have been if Boston signed him then.

Not for any real need. Just to be spiteful and rub it in.

I'll take Giroux at around $8 million long before I take Kessel at a similar price. That's all I'm going to say.
