There are some players who outperform their salaries in a given season. The NFL has a performance-based pay system based on playing time to help compensate players with low-paying contracts that played large roles on an NFL team.

Every club received $3,802,500 to distribute throughout the roster for the 2015 regular season. As the figures were released on Monday, here were the top 10 Redskins in performance-based pay.

  1. Linebacker Will Compton – $222,465.82
  2. Defensive back Kyshoen Jarrett – $209,159.18
  3. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland – $205,310.97
  4. Cornerback Will Blackmon – $203,607.92
  5. Offensive tackle Morgan Moses – $188,632.23
  6. Wide receiver Jamison Crowder – $178,442.44
  7. Offensive guard Spencer Long – $169,348.27
  8. Quarterback Kirk Cousins – $164,007.83
  9. Wide receiver Ryan Grant – $128,611.01
  10. Tight end Jordan Reed – $119,219.33
Compton led the way after playing in all 16 games and making a career-high 10 starts in his third season. The undrafted rookie free agent from Nebraska in 2013 made just $510,000 last season. Jarrett, a sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech last year, also played in all 16 games and made six starts serving as both a nickel cornerback and a safety. He made just $468,907 last year prior to his performance-based pay check.

Fourteen players in all received six-figure performance-based pay bonuses. Former Redskins placekicker Kai Forbath received the lowest amount at $487.83.

I like how they say "just made $510,000" like that isn't very much. I make a few dollars less and that term "just made" would be way more appropriate to my salary.

Remember for quite a few of these guys they are only going to be around for a handful of seasons. They also are going to potentially experience all types of medical & mental issues moving forward. I am not necessarily feeling sorry for them - just clarifying the situation. Also - remember that they are the elite of their profession - even the ones near the bottom of the NFL. For any given profession - the elite make considerably more than everyone else.

I am among the elite of my profession. I served in the military and my job naturally has back problems. I will never see what these people make...even the lowers in their profession.

OK - I should say for most. I also didn't say that the best in a given profession make as much as NFL players - just that they make more than the average. If that is not the case in your job - sorry @ that & I wish you did make more.

However - the top .1% (which is basically where NFL players fit among anyone who has played the game) of teachers, engineers, performers, actors, financial people, managers, etc almost always make a lot of $$ & much more than everyone else who practices their craft.

I will never begrudge pro athletes for making a lot of money especially NFL players who in many cases pay a steep price later in life. After all - this is about supply & demand & we basically agree to this money when we pay at the gate & via TV and commercials.

I don't have a problem with them making money other than e fact we are paying them and it continually gets worse. Between merchandising and general costs that are passed to us, we contribute to our own problem.

I do begrudge them a little also because they get paid to play a game they played for years without the expectation of compensation. They know the consequence of playing the game.

I think most people have a problem with their pay because of wording and complaints.
