Actually, there were a couple of years when Texas was projected as a possible playoff contender - but not to the same extent that some of the others on the list. Nebraska was even mentioned on one hack's pre-season list.

The Long Horns haven't been the same since they got rid of Mack Brown.

And the Huskers. Did Pelini put a curse on them when he was fired? At least with him they were competitive.

I thought about that; but Michigan has been predicted as a playoff participant more often than Notre Dame, even though the Irish have made it more often.
