James Paxton has reportedly agreed to terms to return to the Mariners:
1/$8.5MM with incentives that could bring it to $10MM.

Kinda surprised that Dipoto would dish out that much money to a free agent. I hope it works out.

Enjoy him through July if he stays injury free for 4 months.

Finally for one day I can be a little happy about this offseason. Paxton offers probably more upside then anyone who in the rotation currently and you can either deal or have him be part of what’s next. Good move.
All they had to do was add a starter, get pen depth and 2nd baseman and I woulda been ok with this offseason

Are the M's the only team that brings back "favorite" players? Ownerhip gives Dip money to bring back the Paxman. He's not a Griffey or a Ichiro, so hope it works out. His track record for injuries has me wondering what the real story is.

Solid signing imo... The Big Maple returns...

Now we have James Paxton AND Justus Sheffield...

Overall, I'm feeling a bit optimistic about a .500 or better type of a season...

I do like the signing but not sure how much "upside" a 32 year old pitcher can have... Definitely can be a solid guy in the rotation... Be great if we can get the 2019 version of Paxton...

When healthy he’s been among one of the best pitchers in the AL the last 5 years. He’s just never healthy. I don’t think anyone else in the rotation has that capability currently

I like the signing. A lot of people wanted us to go back after Taijuan Walker, but Paxton probably offers a higher ceiling right now, and they're both injury prone.

But he is the opposite of Felix. Felix was a 30 year old who had the arm of a mid 40’s guy. Paxton has been injured enough to where his arm is still mid 20’s in terms of wear and tear.

Well if we treat this as a Tai Walker situation last season in which he can have a solid 1st half and trade him for a prospect like we did Walker I would take that as a win.

Not a good sign if he's going back for a 2nd opinion... Probably means that he's going to be out a while... 60+ days would be my guess...

Man this has to be the most frustrating thing to get hit with a season ending surgery just 1 inning into the season. Now he will go into free agency coming off a major surgery he may not land much in the 2022 season he will need to take a major pay cut.

I could see the Mariners doing a Ken Giles type deal where they give him a two year deal in the offseason to rehab. I doubt he will have much in terms of other options. Maybe when he does come back he can be a reliever, I think he could be real effective that way. But yeah its too bad for him
