Pay him $0-$12M for the remainder of 2021 and watch him become a free agent? If he was healthy and could play, why wouldn't he finish 2021 for his $7M with the Patriots and become a FA after this season??

Use your brain. He knows that the quad injury was bad and that he's not going to be the DPY he was in 2019. He wants a 3 year $54M contract with $36M guaranteed. He wants out of NE because he knows once he gets on the field, the opposition is going to go right at him and his value is going to drop like a rock.
