New England didn't have a first-round pick this year, but it didn't take the Patriots long to sign their second-round selection.

Cornerback Cyrus Jones inked his rookie deal Thursday, according to multiple reports. The No. 60 overall pick out of Alabama offers the Patriots immediate help as a slot defender who also doubles as a dangerous return man.

Drawing comparisons to Kansas City's Steven Nelson, Jones piled up seven career picks and four forced fumbles during his run with the Crimson Tide. The Patriots have missed on a handful of later-round defensive backs, but Jones has a legitimate chance to steal snaps away from Justin Coleman in subpackage sets.

"(Jones) may need to get his Twitter game in check because I think he lets some of that stuff get to him, but it's just more fuel for his fire," one league executive told NFL Media's Lance Zierlein. "He thinks everyone is always disrespecting him from media to the other team. I like him. You will never have to worry about his football character while he's in the league."

With Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler ticketed for starting roles on the outside, New England wasn't desperate for help at the position. Still, we like the potential of any defensive back playing under coach Bill Belichick, one of the most creative defensive architects of our time.

Nice to see it get done quickly.
This may be the best early corner pick BB has made, not counting McCourty.

The Patriots announced the following transactions today: RB Joey Iosefa was waived. Draft picks CB Cyrus Jones, OL Joe Thuney, DT Vincent Valentine, WR Malcolm Mitchell, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill, LB Elandon Roberts, G Ted Karras and WR Devin Lucien signed contracts. Isn't it amazing how fast the Patriots get stuff done. Brissett will sign pretty quick. He's third round pick and doesn't have any Heismans, All-American or other jewelry to bargain with. He should realize that there are free agent QBs with professional resumes who can now be had for pennies on a dollar. No question that the Patriots will be carrying 3 QBs if Brady can't get his suspension put on hold, but BB won't ley Brissett hold him hostage.
The kid better get on this bus or he'll get run over by it.

Well really anymore Rookie Contracts are some of the easiest to get done. They are already slotted on how much a contract can be worth so the only thing they can really haggle about is some of the guaranteed money/signing bonus side of things. So yeah all these contracts should move pretty quickly.

That may be true, but how many other NFL teams have signed 9 of their 10 draft picks?

I think a couple of teams have a good chunk of their draft class signed. Every team is a bit different on this. Some like to get it done very quickly while others take their time. I don't think the Broncos have signed a single draft pick yet at least that I have seen. The players though have protections written in now that whether it is signed or not and say they get injured during Rookie Mini-Camp they still get the full contract. So there is no huge rush to get these things done but there is also very little to stop it from getting done in a very timely manner either.
