That is a pretty safe bet, as safe as the Pats cutting him with the expectation another team would not offer Hoyer enough to make it worthwhile to leave.

Where's the confusion? Cam cut. Hoyer cut too. The speculation is Hoyer was cut as part of musical chairs and will get his seat back when Stid goes on the PUP.

The rules are this: All teams must cut down to 53 players including those they plan to put on the season PUP (which is different from the preseason PUP). Once they PUP players they no longer count toward the 53 man roster and more players can be added back.

Fact: At 4:54 pm Tuesday August 31, 2021, thirteen (13) teams had not submitted their 53 man roster to the league office. So why bother having a 4:00 pm EST requirement??


Anyway, Blake Bortles is available and the Patriots nearly made a deal for him last year. He'd be a perfect veteran backup to help guide Mac. Robert Griffin III is available but he's not the mentor type. How about 42 year old Jake McCown?? Yikes.

If you look aat the names of QBs that are free agents, you see familiar previous Patriots and the names of QBs that we thought should be drafted like Lauletta and Newman.
