pass interference when a defender interferes or hinders a receiver's fair attempt at catching a football.

Meaning contact is not automatic PI's (or even grabbing of a jersey)

Tons of PI's shouldnt be called, & change games.

Fwiw, I think refs so far are doing better job this season, letting them play more from the games I’ve watched.

Call it illegal contact then. Technically, no contact allowed more than 5 yards downfield. Grabbing of a jersey is holding. You're splitting hairs here.

I've seen players getting away with too much jersey grabbing this year.
Saw one yesterday where the front of the neck was pulled back away from the ball, preventing an attempt to catch - no call!

Honestly what I have seen and what I like is that if the offensive guy initiates the contact, the refs have been swallowing their whistles. Too much over the last couple of years WR's are the ones starting the physical play and then the defensive players gets called when all he does is counter a push with a grab.

nothing to see here, Ram fans already told us here that there were bad calls against them that game as well. Good teams overcome that. Like the Rams did. :spit:

You may be right but what I have seen are inexcusable jersey grabs and not releasing
Some WR's are being jerked off their feet!

Personal fouls are also a huge issue. The refs gifted Tampa that game.

but that is a huge difference in penalties. So wouldnt consider that splitting hairs.
One would be 1st down & 5 yds & the other could be 50+ yds on the one yard line. The simple point is they call to many PI's that arent PI's.

the one that drives me nuts is when the QB waits to the last second to slide. The tackler is already lowered to hit or tackle QB. It is just a free 15 yds for the offense & nothing the defender can do different.

well, they could take the washington LB's approach and knock that sucker out. It was a fair trade that day
well there is some truth to that.
Cant stop now & it is already gonna be a penalty. Might as well get my money's worth & blast 'em

If the ball is in the air, they are all pass interference calls though. A flag on a downfield pass is most likely going to be PI.

IMO, running QBs that force the issue like that need to be treated like RBs. If you're not giving yourself up early enough, no protection. The league's smarter OCs are basing their offenses off the protection afforded QBs to an increasing degree. Difficult to legislate how early you slide though...
