Packers boost defense with edge rushers Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith, safety Adrian Amos

Waiting until the first wave of free agency rolled through the NFL on Monday, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst jumped in with both feet, signing three potential starters on defense and one on offense.

Edge rushers Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith and Chicago safety Adrian Amos all agreed to terms on contracts with the Packers on Tuesday morning, NFL sources confirmed Tuesday morning.

Gutekunst later added Denver guard/tackle Billy Turner, a source told PackersNews.com

Throwing money all over the place. Happy that they finally dipped into FA but the Turner contract is a head scratcher for me

They probably figure Turner will settle one of the guard spots. Either that or they're going to give Bulaga the heave-ho and he'll start at RT.

Who the fuck names their kid Za'Darius?

And why?
Same reason there are a billion white people named William. It’s almost like an obligation to the culture. I actually find black people’s names cool for the most part.

I hope Adrian Amos slips in the shower and breaks his hip.

It would be a massive downgrade at RT IMO. Especially since that position sees Mack, Hunter and whoever the Lions get twice per year

With the upgrade at pass rusher, they can use 12 and 30 for BPA. Wouldn't be too surprised to see BG use them both to make a splash move in the draft. Seems like he's at least attempting to get Rodgers some more help on the back end of his career.

I don't see Matthews coming back next year after these moves.

that was a shit ton of money on unproven players. An average of 29 million per year in 2 guys that have never gone above 9 sacks worries me. Love the Amos signing though

Perry gone, see ya. I'd like to see Clay back for at least another year. He still has gas in the tank. With the younger Smiths being signed he can be a complement. The question is what does he want financially. The Packers aren't in the sentimental business though so who knows.

I think they're paying for what they see on film, not their past production. Pettine has a way of getting guys to the qb, just didn't have the talent last year to finish the job as far as sacks are concerned.

I hope they're right. I still want to see them package both 1st's and move up to get the best pass rusher they can

You are missing the important stuff by focusing on just the sack numbers. It’s about the number of pressures per snap when rushing. That is where these guys have succeeded, especially on third down for Z.

Yup. The threat of a sack is better than what we've seen the last couple years.

Pettine is excellent at scheming a pass rush. Now he has a couple guys who can actually finish.

The two Smith's alone had more pressures then all of our OLBs last year.
