Very meh ending.

Nothing horrible or series ruining but wont stand up anywhere close to some of the best finales ever.

Just kinda there.
Wait...

You're saying Marty and Ruth getting married wasn't the earth shattering, groundbreaking, breathtaking ending you wanted?

Juuuuu-uuust kidding!

I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm not talking about Ruth's death. I'm talking about when Rachel shot Nelson. Why was Nelson there in the first place? It was clear that he intentionally went to Ruth's at a time he knew Ruth would not be there. For what purpose? To kill Ruth in an ambush or was it to kill Rachel, who was staying with Ruth?

Just about every other death in the show, we were told who was responsible for it, but here, we don't know whether it was Wendy or Camilla. If Wendy wanted Rachel dead, she'd have had her killed the first time Nelson was waiting in Rachel's car, and Camilla did not yet have any reason to know that Rachel had killed Javier.

Oh, I agree. I think they left some storytelling continuity on the table just to keep moving towards the end.
My theory.

Nelson was Omar Navarros hitman. Omar sent him to kill Ruth. Ruth and Rachael took over the casino and wouldn’t allow Marty to launder money there. He needed the money to pay off his lieutenants in Mexico and stay in control over the cartel.

When Nelson threatened Rachael it was because Wendy asked him to do it for a favor. This was before Omar ordered the hit.

But I agree. The ending made no sense. Completely out of character for Ruth. She always had street smarts and was one step ahead of every bad situation. Throughout the entire series every time the black SUV showed up it was like the “angel of death” She bailed out on less.

That was the dumb part, Ruth was always too smart for that. I have no problem with her being a tragic casualty, but she knew better than to just walk around with a cartel vehicle there.

I get the statement at the end how Mel tried to say the world doesn't work like they get to be the Koch's or Kennedy's. Of course it does. It makes sense to me that they all get off in the end to continue doing what they want without consequences.

I didn't like Jonah's ending either. That was dumb. That's about a 180 for him in 24 hours from wanting nothing to do with his mom, to being willing to kill an innocent man. And Mel knew the Byrde's were willing to kill anyone to protect their family. Showing up to gloat shouldn't have happened.

The last minute of this show ruined the ending.

Oh, I agree. I think they left some storytelling continuity on the table just to keep moving towards the end.

The last couple of episodes were a bit contrived, with some characters doing things that didn't make a lot of sense... for example Ruth taking the casino out from under Marty and telling him he'd have to launder drugs for the cartel somewhere else. She's no fool. How did she think that was going to work out for her? Maybe after she killed Javi she figured it was just a matter of time? Idk.. but Ruth did a few things that were head-scratchers towards the end.

It would have been nice if things had worked out for Ruth and for Wendy & Marty to have received their comeuppance, but like they went over in the final scene "that's not the way the world works".

I agree. At this point in the show Ruth was pretty cautious and thoughtful--maybe Wyatt's death changed her to be more reckless and revenge focused? I could buy some of that.

When she killed javi, what did she think was going to happen? 5 people can't keep a secret like that. It's a miracle Wendy didn't flip on her at the first sign of trouble with the casino. Then Shaw spilled the beans in a second after Camilla threatened her.

And taking the casino from the Byrds...what did she think was going to happen? You can't take away the cartel's primary laundering pipeline and think the cartel would do nothing. You can't screw over Marty and Wendy and think they wouldn't do something about it. Instead, Ruth's character behaved in an unrealistically "I can't be touched now" manner.

What i found to be the saddest part of the show is that Ruth lost everything and all b/c she stole from Marty to start the show off. That theft put in motion a chain of events that led the deaths of her and her entire family (save Threet).

It was sad about Ruth, but the way things turned out was kind of right too. Ruth's relationship with the Byrd's had already taken everything she cared about from her and Marty & Wendy lost any shred of remaining humanity and their souls, even though they "won". It definitely was not a happy ending but it kind of worked... some of the uncharacteristic actions by certain characters that lead up to it notwithstanding.

Once she killed Javi I sort of figured Ruth wasn't going to make it out alive. The only question was would Wendy & Marty make it out alive.. I figured they wouldn't kill off the kids.

I agree. I thought Ruth's death was a foregone conclusion at that point. I just thought Wendy would end up dead too.

Yeah I didn't think she was actually going to do it until she pulled the trigger. It was a disappointment tbh. I think everyone as rooting for Ruth.
