Lol. I like the math they did. Pretty funny. Makes me think of the fact that when I take a stroll in the woods, I usually run across nobody. But these people can't walk 100 yards in the woods without encountering a handful of zombies. I mentioned this about a month ago...

I've always liked apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic shows and movies mostly because I find the re-building of society aspect interesting. The "what would you do" in this scenario. Like I've mentioned before, more spikes (like the crazy guy made in their hometown, can't remember his name) or a moat/ditch or something. You're dealing with a slow, dumb enemy. I get disappointed that they don't go into some of that more.

With as good as the writers and production are for this show, you'd think they wouldn't miss out on those details. Like why do they have 1 or 2 people clearing the fence and 1 or 2 people doing all the gardening. Aren't defense and food your top priorities? When they had 40 people there, what the hell were the other 36 doing all day? It just reaches a "there's a killer in the house... let's all split up!"esque level sometimes.

I think Walking Dead is a very good show. It's just not a great show, and some of these "well why the fuck did they do that?" moments prevent it from getting there for me. Oh well, it's still damn entertaining.

yeah some things bug me like that as well. I think after season 2 the producers got so arrogant they just said. we will get the ratings regardless so we can be a little lazier on writing and plot/character dev

Maybe the second series, not based on the comic, will explore a more stable society as it is being formed.

Also, this GIF cracks me up...

anigif_enhanced-buzz-15172-1384448107-9.gif

That must be taken from an interview, because there is NO WAY that was taken from the show itself. Rick has been too Goth-like since arriving at the prison.

These are legit complaints, but we are talking about a zombie show. You have to put blinders on when watching anything from this genre. Unless the show/movie (not necessarily TWD) abandons the idea of the zombies being dead, and instead goes the "Rabies" route, EVERYTHING about the genre is complete bunk, scientifically. You either accept it or you don't.

I understand that the premise of a "zombie outbreak" is clearly not scientific and wouldn't happen. I don't think that means you can't expect the reactions of the humans to that scenario to be unrealistic as well. It's one thing when it's say James Bond, a kung fu movie, or a superhero comic where the intention of the creators is to allow the characters to do unreal/surreal things. But aside from the premise, the Walking Dead has had a realistic approach, not a surreal one.

At the end of the day, The Walking Dead is a popular show because it has something that every really good television drama (Sopranos, Wire, Lost, Northern Exposure, etc.) has had - interesting and compelling characters and good character development. I just wish they didn't have those dumb moments (Rick - "we'll deal with that giant group of zombies about to ruin the fence like we just saw yesterday later") that detract from those great characters.

i agree with eloco and I think I can say Im a pretty big fan and let alot go for the sake of how absurd the plot really is in reality. I would like to see them react a little more intelligent for things like a giant horde at the gates. I know it takes away from the suspense of are they really safe or not but having 40 lazy people they just saved from a nut ball doing nothing pisses me off. they almost deserved their fate inside the prison :D

- Guv'nor is going through some serious psychological shit (folding himself out of the picture)
- ooh, new leaf for governator. turned 'face'
- yeah nice ending, that sets up a whole shitload of possibilities, both with backstory and going forward.

For me the poor decision making begins and ends with the fact that they never used the "Guts" trick again that they learned in the 2nd episode. Seems that could have came in handy on several occasions. Of course the show would be pretty boring if they just kept doing that all the time. It seems just about every show or movie have a lot of moments where the characters don't always do the smartest things but are usually necessary for the plot.

That link was pretty interesting. I thought about some of that stuff before too. But why do we assume that Rick's group is just an average group in the apocalypse? It doesn't seem that far-fetched to me that the group that the show revolves around, might happen to be one of the more extraordinary groups of survivors. After all, Bob mentioned he's been part of other groups in the past that were completely wiped out. Also who says 1% of the population has survived? Why can't it be less than that? Especially when they suggest that it wouldn't make sense? Rick found the 3 most important people in his life still alive so it might seem at first that more than 1% survived. But it's not like these were 3 random people whose fates would be independent of one another's. His best friend happened to be a cop like him and he took care of his family. It seems that people close to one another would have a reasonably high probability of having of similar fates at the time of the initial outbreak. Plus this can also relate to the point about the show focusing on one of the more extraordinary groups. The show has mostly focused on rural Georgia so far too. Even if more than 1% survived in that region doesn't mean that would be the case everywhere. The more densely populated areas probably would have had lower survival rates early on. A lot of the bigger cities would be north too where those who did survive initially might have a tough time surviving the winter in the apocalypse. Eventually a lot of these zombies could migrate south looking for more humans.

I thought tonight's episode was a bit disappointing on it's own but I think it sets things up nicely for future episodes. It was kind of boring when the only known character wasn't speaking. For the first 45minutes or so the most entertaining part was when he told the little girl that he was a pirate. The chess metaphor's weren't too bad either. Governor might have gone a bit soft but it seems like he still has his one good eye on getting Rick.

Governor and Carol seem to have something in common. They both want to let go of their deceased families and adopt new ones.

I was really hoping the old folks home would be the same one from Season 1 and he'd meet up with some of those characters. I know there was a deleted scene where Rick's group went back there and nobody was left. But since it was deleted I figured that could still be a possibility.

I thought that girl looked quite a bit like Maggie.

I hope they flash back even further and show what happened with the Governor and Martinez. As usual, next week's episode should be interesting.

I think the Gov might have made a semi-face turn. I think he'll continue to be good to that family but not so great to the prison folk. He may even justify doing some pretty ruthless things in order to protect that family, especially the little girl.

This is definitely an episode that would have been worth saving until the next comes out had we only known.

Just watched it again. How the hell did that family survive as long as they did without knowing that you shoot/stab the zombies in the head?
