Just watched it yesterday on Spike (they were running a marathon all weekend)

Still a great movie. RIP

According to the wonderful and personable George Lucas Empire is easily the worst of all the Star Wars movies. Apparently some critic really liked it and gave it a great review and the sheep that all fans are just agreed.

He really is quite an ass.

Well nothing tops the first one (I mean Number IV) and I also like the second one (I mean number V). I didn't like the Ewoks or Jar-Jar Binks, but I thought the 6th one (I mean number III) was quite good as well.

Just my opinion though.

I dont want to bash lucas in a thread like this so I will only say

Lucas has lost touch with film making

again RIP Irvin. you made Star Wars take off in a direction not many movies have been able to do after such a successful start. You made it better with a sequel

I liked the early 3 Star Wars movies, Return Of The Jedi less because of the Ewoks. The dance kills me. And now Hayden inserted in it bothers me. But it had some great scenes, and was a lot of fun.

I feel the newer three are really bad movies and lack most of what made the originals entertaining. Gone are the witty dialogue and compelling characters. Many of the action sequences are weak IMO. And the special effects range from decent to awful. I liked Portman's bare midriff and Ewan's dead on Alec Guiness impersonation. Little else.

The most recent movie may have been the quickest moving and probably the easiest to watch of the three, but I hated how it turned one of the great villains in movie history into a whining weak pawn.

Lucas struck gold twice with American Graffiti and Star Wars. Otherwise he is not a good filmmaker. Hes a great technical guy though.

I'll credit Lucas's partner Spielberg with the Indiana Jones movies. Spielberg to me is another filmmaker who has lost his way IMO. Like Lucas, his popcorn films (his early career bread and butter) have seem to be geared toward kids, no subtlety or edge at all with lots of silliness. His serious stuff is still decent though to me.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a joint effort to make a crappy kids movie with lots of garbage. Shia swinging with the monkeys, snake rope, nuked fridge etc. Plus no fun dialogue and they got a wooden performance out of Ford. I had no expectations when I saw this movie and I am still amazed how awful I think it is. And Lucas has a idea for a 5th film. Oh joy.

Blow it up, cast Nathan Fillion as Indy (or Leonardo, or Michael Pitt who is fantastic in Boardwalk Empire) and get new writers and director. Never happen though.

Spot on, right on all points. I know it was supposed to be serious and earth shattering, but at the end of that movie when Darth Vader finds out his kids are dead and freaks out with a big "NOOOOOOOO" I actually laughed out loud at the cheese oozing from the silver screen.

I liked the 3 originals fairy equally. But I'd probably have to ROTJ was my favorite. The Ewoks didn't really do anything for me, good or bad but at least they helped create a use for that gay droid (not that there's anything wrong with being a droid) C-3PO. I thought Jabba and the Emporer were pretty bad ass! Not to mention the the Storm Troopers on Endor with those bike type things were by far the coolest Storm Troopers.

Episode 3 I thought was pretty good but it could have been better. An appearance by a young Han Solo where he befriends Chewy would have been cool. Ideally it would have involved Jar Jar annoying the fuck out of young Han and then Chewy comes along and rips Jar Jar to pieces thus beginning their epic friendship. I always like to assume that's what happened.

The first 2 were painful. All 3 prequels could have been much better and still told the exact same story if they just cut out some of the so-called "cute' stuff.
