You nearly burned my entire fucking complex down with your exploding non-so-smart meter. Luckily, the fire happened in the day where the smell of burning plastic was caught early. A fire crew arrived within minutes to douse the the flames coming out of the electrical room.

Nice and comforting to know we have 23 more of those fucking cocksuckers that could potentially do the same god damn thing at any random fucking time.

It still wreaks of burning plastic outside, as do I.

didn't they put out a brochure on what to watch for on these spontaneously combustible meters?
might have wanted to put those resources into making meters that i don't know.... DON'T explode?

Known issues:

1) They're made overseas (china?)
2) They're made of plastic
3) BC Hydro doesn't install them; Corix installs them using workers who aren't even electricians, so if there is a potential issue, they'd never know

The problem may likely not have been with the meter (although this obviously inferior product sure didn't help); it may have been an issue with the idiot(s) not making proper contacts during the install, in which case, arcing can (and in this case, did) occur.

According to the article above, as of August 4th, there were over a 1000 fires started.

Just got this in my e-mail, BB - Join the protest in Campbell River.

October 4, 2012 has been identified as an International Day of Protest of Smart Meters in the United States. Groups within the United States are encouraging other countries to participate in this day of protest.

BC Hydro’s Corporate Security team has been advised that protests may occur at some BC Hydro locations tomorrow and will be monitoring the situation.

While protests may occur at any facility, protests have been planned at the following BC Hydro sites:

• Campbell River – 8 a.m. in front of the BC Hydro building;
• Nanaimo – No time identified; and,
• Victoria – 12:30 -1:30 p.m. in front of the BC Hydro building (4400 West Saanich Road).

Those sound cool. All we get are ones that have an unsecured wireless access point in them so they can be read remotely.

And they are unrestricted to the internet. I watched my neighbor's kid download every episode of South Park, Robot Chicken and all the Batman movies from one.

Technology is a wonderful thing. It keeps us on our toes so we learn how to deal with more complex problems.

Glad nobody got hurt....so far.

Check smart meter for flickering or dimming: BC Hydro - News1130

According to the article above, as of August 4th, there were over a 1000 fires started.

Ha, I read this from the story. What a load of shit ! are you fucking kidding me? What is she saying?

There have been about 1,000 cases of damaged meter sockets, which are thought to be the cause of the fires.

Cindy Verschoor with BC Hydro says there's no evidence to suggest that the meters themselves are overheating and catching fire, but she says the sockets the meters plug into are often the culprits.

"We are seeing some cases where there is erosion or damage to the meter socket when we pull off the existing metre," she says. "If a customer gives us permission to repair that on the spot, we do that."

Solution: Leave the old ones in or new ones that are designed like the old ones. If that's not possible replace the sockets when you put the new meters in. End of story.

Just had the electrician come by today to do work. Three more boxes have to be replaced because of burnt wires (at about 1000 bucks a piece).

Here's the the thing -- either the Smart Meters caused the wires to burn, or, the people who came in and replaced the Smart Meters didn't notice that there were burnt wires and replaced the meters (when they SHOULDN'T have replaced the meters and notified us of burnt wires before doing work).

At any rate, total fucking incompetence on the part of BC hydro for either providing shit meters, or, providing service people (Corix) who aren't properly trained in the field.

Absolutely agree with your post, Boss.

Even if it is the sockets which are the problem (which I don't believe), it's BC Hydro that hired cheap labor (Corix) to replace the meters. Workers who aren't trained properly to do a proper to notice the erosion and NOT install until everything is up to spec.]

Should Read: Corix workers aren't trained to do a proper install and to notice any erosion or burns which could be a potential fire hazard. They can't be trusted (obviously) to install until everything is up to spec.

What the fuck did I write before that? :L
