Whitecaps can the Icelandic tactician...
The struggling Vancouver Whitecaps FC have fired coach Teitur Thordarson after the club started with only one win in its first dozen games of its expansion Major League Soccer season.
Vancouver is last place in the Western Conference at 1-5-6.
It was a sombre Monday morning in east Vancouver when Thordarson's firing was announced. He joined the club in late 2007, when Vancouver played in lower-tier leagues, and was popular among fans, the team and the club's front office.
"It's not a day that any of us" said Bobby Lenarduzzi, the club president, stumbling on his words, "are feeling good about."
Thordarson is being replaced by Tom Soehn, a former DC United head coach who is the Whitecaps director of soccer operations.
Paul Barber, CEO of the club and former Premiership executive, said high-level soccer is results orientated and one win to date was inadequate for the team to reach its ambitions.
"We needed to act decisively," Mr. Barber said.
