I have a good start to a solid collection and am soon moving into my first house. My wife wants to get insurance to cover those items which means that I need to get them appraised. The cheapest I have found is $200...it is annoying because I had my eye on another piece but not if I have to pay for appraisal.

I have some stuff, but I am more proud of my collection of geek autographs.

I have a Hard Drive autographed by Leo Laporte. I also have signed copies of Kevin Mitnik's and Steve Wosniak's books. I also have a copy of a book on covert communication that is signed by the Author.

He wrote his message in ROT-13.

Back on topic, yes. Get it appraised. Insurance companies will totally screw you if you do not have an appraisal and something happens to your stuff.

When my husband was deep into collecting, he found many insurance agents will just take as appraisal a list of the items and their low end Beckett value.
