I disappeared over the last month or two on here because I got a job offer in Atlanta, so I relocated from Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago.

It's been a while since I wasn't in a hockey town, so I find myself starving for hockey fans in the ATL.

Has anyone else gone through the same thing?

Good luck. I used to word at the stadium during the Pitt and Steelers games, there's no comparison between the crowds. Most Pitt fans are just casual viewers, outside of the students. There's a lot of Penn State alumni though.

Oakland on a Saturday afternoon isn't a bad place to be in that regard. Don't stay too long though. ;)

Good to see you back D. Being born and raised in Buffalo i've never had to deal with that but it's gotta be tough. Thank Al Gore for the internet though because it makes it so easy to talk pucks with people from all over.

Atlanta isnt exactly a hockey town so finding a lot of fans may be tough and most of them are probably transplants from northern cities.

It's probably easier to find an Amish electrician than Thrashers fans down there.

I did the opposite. I went from a place where being a hockey fan was like being a leper to a place where it seems everyone at least knows what it is and there are more roller hockey games on tennis courts than tennis games.

It might be worth going over to hfboards Thrashers boards and finding some locals. Get their input on where the hockey bars are, or what the local scene is like.

There's like 18 million people in Atlanta. You gotta be able to find a few who like hockey. If nothing else, fellow transplants.

Al Gore's my favorite fictional character. He's followed closely by Santa and Christopher Columbus.

I'm sure I'll catch some before the season starts. At least tickets are easy to get now!

It's funny that I only know one person that's actually from Georgia here. The two dozen or so people I've hung out with are all from the North or South West. It's almost as if rappers are the only people born in the Atlanta area...

I have been looking for college football fans in Pittsburgh for 5 years now....

Very true....for as big a football town as Pittsburgh is....the Pitt Panthers are not in the forefront here...and never really have been....and tis is a program that has produced Dan Mariono, Tony Dorsett, Mike Ditka, Hugh Green, Larry Fitzgerald, Curtis Martin and so on....it's strange....they don't even have their own stadium to play in...

It's just because they share the area with a big club. If there were a successful NFL team in Columbus, Ohio, the Buckeyes would not be as big. If Happy Valley was near Pittsburgh or Philly, Penn State would have less attention. I think it's because the region gravitates to the highest level of competition, and that's the NFL. That's not to say those teams wouldn't have die-hard fans, I'm just talking about the most casual of them.

the biggest reason that Pitt football isn't as big as it should be (pretty good teams have come through) is that they play on the north shore, but the school's in oakland. makes NO sense IMO. if they had room for a stadium up on the hill, the games would be well attended, but what college kid wants to take a shuttle bus to a game? i wouldn't...it was nice through HS though because i could easily get tickets to a game.
