Anyone know of an under the radar site with good deals? I really don't want to fork over $800+ if I can help it somehow

No I don't, but Pix may still have a link to cheap, quality hockey jerseys from China?

Hockey monkey seconded. Watch their Clearance deals. I have bought a bunch of goalie gear for my son from them at decent prices.

Other than that, if I know a model number of something I want (bike parts mainly) I search it and go way deep into the results looking for mom and pop shops that sell it. Can save some money that way.

Watch their Clearance return policy too. Most of those sales are final so I'd recommend trying on a bunch of different skates elsewhere first.

Thanks a lot to everyone replying, I really do appreciate any help. But note that I did say "under the radar"... Monkey and Giant are about as on the radar as equipment sites get, so I'm already aware of them.

I was thinking that Pro Stock on ebay might be a way to save a little, has anyone ever done that?

What are you looking for?
Goalie skates? Bauers, CCM's, Reebok???

I mean Im not sure where you are at but I never paid $800 bucks for a pair of skates in my life here in the States. But then again, I don't really go after the most recent releases....

My 0.02, I wouldn't buy them online. I have run into trouble with comfort and feel just moving between the different models within the Bauer line. I have a pro shop over here that would set you back less than $500 for a really nice pair of skates, maybe less than $300 for a pair of the X's

I did purchase a pair of Reebok 5K pump skates on eBay several years ago, the transaction went smoothly and they are a fine pair of skates. That said, I would try some of the smaller sports stores in your area that have a trade-in program, you can often find some great deals on barely used brand new skates.

Creepy as this sounds, I got a pair off a dude from Craigslist. The DC has a bunch of rich people who think hockey is easy, they buy nice expensive skates, realize they suck and sell them to make a few bucks back.

I'm planning to try them on in person and then order them online, I'm not going to order them blind.

If I'm paying full price I'm probably just going to get the Vapor APX2. But if I can find a good deal on a lesser model I'm willing to compromise a little on quality for sure. I can't wear CCMs, my arches are too high. Graf, don't even get me started, they're a no-go too. I've worn Bauers my whole life but tried some Reeboks on the last time I bought and they seemed to fit my strange feet OK as well, so I'd go that route if the deal was right.

What size skate you looking for?

Depends on the skate, but probably 10.

Like I said I have super high arches and really strange feet... every time someone at a store throws my foot in the Brannock they say "oh, you're maybe about an 8" and I tell them to go ahead and get an 8 so I can laugh my ass off watching them try to put them on me. My shoes are all 10.5s and 11s, and they fit just fine.

On first search I found a pair of Vapor APX2s listed as Pro Stock "Johnson" size 10.5. They look a little suspicious though since they have black laces in the picture and I don't think any NHLer with the last name Johnson uses those (very few NHLers of any last name use black laces). Maybe Magic Johnson is playing Beer League?

I have a pair of these I would have let you have fairly cheap but they're CCM's. Post a pic of whatever you buy.

Yeah CCM definitely isn't going to work. Thanks so much for the offer though! I'll definitely post what I got when I get them.

You can see in the picture where the boot has pulled off. Sucks.
