see for me on one hand, if the NHLPA wins the kovy case, i get what i want and its been a great summer.

the flip side of that is there will be next to nothing to look forward to until training camp with the exception of waiving bryce salvador.

it is speculated that its wedensday cause its supposed to be 2 days, and they are saying the ruling is expected saturday at the latest.
the arbitrator is richard bloch, who'se ruled for players before and for the league at other times.....
it actually looks like he's a bit more of a league man but we'll see.
pretty nervous actually i'm not gonna lie.

as sick as everyone is of this topic and everything i don't think a single person on this board would say they wouldn't want kovalchuk on their team

Why don't the Devils just restructure the deal? I think if they paid Kovy 1 mil the last 5 years of the deal, the league would have nothing to say. Just a thought.

well i actually read a good article today but one of the rangers beat writers actually defending the devils.

the 1 major rule involving salaries is you can't go down more than half of what a player was paid the year before. so say kovy is making 11.5 like he is scheduled to make years 3-8. the devils can't move him to a salary lower than5.7 for the next year.

so they went to i 8.5 for year 9
then 5.5 for year 10 (i believe)

i think in partial cockiness by the devils both lamoriello and pellegrini combined (both workied directly with daly in writing the cba and designing the cap) they are thinking that while it may shit all over the spirit of the cap, there is no proof they broke any rules, as the salary dropped at a legal limit,
and they can even point to the hossa contract and say hey, he makes 93 % of his money in the first 2/3s of his deal, kovy is making 94 % in the first 2/3's of his.

thats a 1% difference, and there is no rule stating you can't front load a deal, so what gives?

thats how i think they are looking at it from a devils stand point,

as for me. i've said several times. i don't like these deals but..... if your read the CBA, article 26 specifically you'll be hard pressed to offer me or anyone proof that any rule was broken.

while it doesn'te mean much, i think its worth noting brooks is a rangers writer ahha

It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. As the deal stands, I don't see kovy playing out the whole deal.
